Virus warning when downloading Client-Installer.exe?

Due to sound issues ive had since patch v1.10 I wanted to try and re-install the game.

Trouble is Norton wont let me download the Client-Install.exe from the My Downloadble Products page when logged into the Frontier Store.

As soon as the d/l starts it warns for a Supicisous.Cloud9 trojan and puts the partial file in quarantine. So now im not sure how to be able to install the game again. Bit strange if the file gives a false positiive since its been available for quite a while and didnt cause and problems Before.

Any ideas?

This is a fairly common occurrence with patch releases or other frequently updated downloads, whichever AV solution you use. Suspicious.Cloud9 is a Symantec "heuristic detection" thing, designed to catch malware that is new or morphs its own code, trying to avoid "signature" detection. Quick solution is to disable Norton while downloading. You may also wish to report it to Symantec as a false positive.

Thanks, ive submitted the file to Norton so they can clear it.

I know Norton used to be very Heavy on system Resources but that was fixed ten years ago, havent seen at virus test lately but seems a bit strange they would end up as one of the worst? Any more info on this?

It's common sense, like dont run with scissors or don't stick metal objects into wall outlets.

It's not just the amount of power it uses but how effective it is in picking up threats. I did a test some time ago where I took Norton, Kaspersky and AVG and intentionally put a load of viruses and malware onto my PC. I then ran scans from each program and only Kaspersky found all the threats and eliminated them. More-over, both Norton and AVG tried to eliminate a load of files that they deemed threatening but actually weren't.

Dont run an AV. None of them are worth it. Just every month or so give your comp the once over with something like malwarebytes antimalware.

On the other hand ED is a bit like a virus. You will find other games stop working... Well, youll stop playing thrm at least

This. There is only one functioning anti malware software, it's called brain.exe. Windows 8.1 already protects you well enough if you are careful and an additional system scan once in a while should be enough.

it's definitely not as bad, they just got a bad rep from back then.

i run it too and i don't get this warning btw.

I'm something of an expert on domestic computer use and I can confirm that Norton is a useless piece of bloatware. I would recommend uninstalling it and replacing it with the following FREE and much better software:

Avira antivirus or Avast
Zonelarm firewall or Comodo firewall
Malwarebytes.

Norton is very poor and often gives false positives.

Personally I wouldn't touch it and neither do my customers.

Kaspersky or Eset would be my recommendations (high detection of unknown malware but low false positives and they don't slow your comp down).
