Gargantua Black Hole

Would love to see a black hole named as Gargantua in honor of the interstellar film!

I have not watched that yet. I heard so many mixed reviews that I just haven't got around to it. Been re-watching Firefly instead, which I know you'll appreciate based on your avatar. :)

Been looking for that myself. Don't think it's in (though obviously I haven't checked them all :D).
Or GCIRS 13E for that matter which is supposed to be 1300 solar masses. But located 3 LY from Sag A*.

Finally watched it few days ago. Deserves it's place i the Sci-Fi hall of fame, along with Space Odyssey, Star Wars, Galactica and Firefly. Wouldn't watch it again though. Not that type of film.

My favorite scene! Its not possible, no, its necessary.

I watch this everyday before i play elite.

I was really disappointed in the film. I expected so much more as far as "realism" but it just turned Hollywood-stupid. I would not put it in the Hall of fame, along with those other films such as 2001, etc.... I would put it in the "mission to Mars" category of dumb scifi.

Then it would be crown jewel of that category. :)

What put you off most while watching it? Personally, I didn't really like the pace of the whole thing. 2001 - thats the pace I loved! Other than that, it's a beautiful sci-fi film with some really unexpected twists at times, which kept me on my toes all three hours.

Me too.
I could live with the crazy amount of trust and fuel those small ships had but the last bit of the movie just went over the edge for me.
Movie basicly went from semi realistic to w*f i am watching in the end.

I'm one of those weird guys that liked the "boring" space in 2001- still the MOST realistic space film ever made. I like the excitement of a "star wars" also, but as far as "Interstellar", I was put off mainly by the pieces that all fell together too conveniently, like there being a giant underground NASA facility full of super High tech computers, hundreds of scientists, machinists, engineers, etc...not to mention huge spaceships (especially the ONE BIG ONE-I won't ruin the film) all within a few miles of this devastated dust bowl where the ONE astronaut they need lives....and they NEVER even contact him and say "hey, we got this thing going on over here you might be interested in"..... But no, we'll just wait around and hope you happen to stumble upon it at night and then we'll tell you that you are the only one who can do this mission.

There are lots of other things obviously, but I have limited time and space... :)

Mixed? Really? I loved it. Everyone I know that saw it loved it. People over analyze movies instead of just enjoying them like they are meant to be. I would be down with gargantua in the game as long as they make it just as impressive looking.

I didn't for one second expect the movie to end in a realistic way, whatever that really is.

Use a rocket to launch from the Earth, use one of those tiny shuttles to launch from a planet with more mass than Earth...

I found it took a lot of liberties with science, but I enjoyed it, or would have if I had not had a migraine during about half of the movie.

Am I the only one that thought the robots were ridiculous? I would think otherwise had the movie come out 30 years ago, but after witnessing all the incredible tech that has come out in real life lately, I thought they were really poorly designed. They walked like muppets.
