Managing the "Anaconda Idiots"

Man I'm so sick of threads like this, there is simply no way that FD can manage human nature and changing the game to suit your "save the wales" "give peace a chance" attitude should not alter or limit the possible options for other gamers.

Anaconda or not, it's the pilot that controls it.. there are more trolls in Vipers than the .05% of the population that owns Anaconda's. If you don't like what any pilot is doing.. gather some folks.. hunt them down and kill them... works for me..

Agreed.
The game by its design allows it.
Join Möbius group and get over it. I've had no issues there when I last played ( prob 2 months ago anyway).

Right but if I am not in places that are likely to see other CMDRs that what is the point of being in Open in the first place?

Dude, if you want excitement, by all means go hang out in a war-zone. But don't whine when you get shot at. Go ahead and provide entertainment for griefers, but don't complain when you do.

If you want to hang out with other CMDRs, strike up ah, wossname, "friendship" or two and flock together. For all that I am incredibly abrasive with twits on this forum I actually have a few friends that I sometimes go on little hunting and fishing expeditions with. I still generally don't waste my time by the watering-holes where the griefers hang out; they're someone else's problem - not mine. But if I did care, I'd get some friends in vent, and we'd all cobra up and do some coordinated hunting for sweet, sweet, salty griefer tears.

That'll work out great for you and your friends inside of a station.

Resolutely failing to get the point, I see.

If. You. Don't. Go. To. The. Stations. Where. Griefers. Hang. Out. They. Will. Get. Bored. Because. Waiting. Around. With. Nothing. To. Shoot. Is. Even. More. Boring. Than. Arguing. With. People. In. The. Forums. (But not much)

Frontier want to stop all ships being able to do this. They've balanced things to stop the cheap dumbfire vipers but it's still possible in Anacondas. Hence the title of the thread. The stations defences need to be beefed up further.

It also hasn't been going on for weeks. It's been going on for months. It was stopped earlier then reintroduced by the addition of chaff and sheild cells.

If you don't care, why reply?

I replied because I care about my Anaconda.. if you have a problem with station exploits then why have Anaconda in the title when I can exploit the station with a Viper, cobra, or any other ship.. did you even bother to put in a ticket? or is this just another troll thread stating the obvious..

or as a previous poster said why not just have weapons automatically disabled as soon as you pass through the letterbox? Have the letterbox shield vapourise any missiles and block any lasers or bullets fired from outside the station.
I can't believe that 1300 years into the future the technology to achieve this would not be easily available.

That ends the problem and just leaves the internal lasers to deal with anyone ramming other players. Beef those up so that they can take down a fully shielded Anaconda using chaff in less time than the griefer can combat log.

Or you could just make station weapons immune to chaff.
+1. If You're making 12 million credits an hour, an 8 million credit insurance charge is a pretty big time investment. Chaff immunity could be exclusive to internal station weapons only. We can give stations missiles/plasma accelerators/rail guns while we're at it :D

No, that's the OP's point about "Anaconda Idiots". You can sit in an Anaconda spewing chaff and blasting other ships and survive for extended lengths of time. Boost out of the station, SC out and back and repeat. See the thread I linked too 4 posts up.

Or watch this;

beefing up station defences should be able too stop this type of tactic regardless of ship...

Then they will ambush you in supercruise. And if they see significant threat they drop in space and switch to solo.

Or block most of hostiles and gang kill the rest, then unblock others and kill them. Anyway, they will research possibilities to grief. They will always be a step ahead, because they thinking and "space truckers" mostly not. FD may implement the "PVP flag/PVE ghetto" for them, it will be only solution.

Or complains will be eternal.

Strategic thinking FAIL.

You will defeat your enemy when you destroy his strategy. In this case, when you make his pleasure (his pleasure in making you miserable) go away. Which is ridiculously easy to do.

Space is huge. How many "griefers" are there? They are hanging out by the watering-holes where "everyone goes" -- stop going to those watering-holes, and spread out in space and they will die on the vine because they'll have to wait 24-36hr before someone stumbles into their little trap. Kill them with boredom because the way they play is - boring.

I explore, mine, and trade (rares and regular items) in the edges of human space. I have not seen a CMDR for over a week. I've never gone out of open because I'm actually thrilled by the idea of encountering another human. If some "griefer" wants to travel 3000ly in exactly the right direction, come at me, bro!!!

But . But You are destroying the game.. ;)

Cheers Cmdr's

Managing the "Anaconda Idiots" what FD could do:

  • Changes to fines and bounties won't work because in game credits are meaningless to these people.

I suggest making increased use of the reputation system to control player behavior.

  • Weapons fire in station makes you hostile with controlling faction, large decrease in reputation with major faction.
  • No docking at this station again till reputation is improved.
  • Make sure it is a tedious long grind to improve reputation.
  • Make sure the station can actually destroy hostile player ships!
  • Confiscate offending ships on destruction and give a cash insurance payout instead.
  • Make a certain level of good reputation a prerequisite to purchasing large class ships.
  • Other minor infractions will still accumulate bad reputation and eventually limit game play options through reduction in ship choice, places you can dock and hostility of local police forces.
  • If you work hard you can recover reputation at the expense of time and much tedious grinding.

None of this stops people being "bad" but limits it by consequences that hurt and hinder repeat offending at the same location.

I'm sure there are other things that could hinge on reputation that could be implemented
this is just a few.

The basic idea is that your reputation kind of sticks even though you have paid your fines and
served your time. As in life you should suffer for having a bad reputation but redemption is
possible.

So you're saying Ruin the game for ALL Annaconda captains just because a couple of annaconda users are immature?

You do realise these things ALWAYS happen in any game, had no one done this this wouldn't have been figured out.

We don't even need to postulate some "immunity" - it's inside the damned station, so they can just use good old optical tracking. Unless your ship can become invisible you will be hit, no matter what.

If you damage someone's hull with your weapons inside a station your account is deactivated for a week. They could even have an in game prison where you try to log in and all you find is a really slippery bar of soap.
boom.

Space truckes can buy viper, fit it with lasers.

Then strip the anaconda's shield and station will finish her. It will not be so hard as her shield is already weakened.

I fail to see how anything I have suggested ruins the game for Anaconda pilots in general.

This thread is hilarious.

Logic has completely disappeared.

No, The solution is simple.

MAKE INTERNAL DEFENCE BYPASS CHAFF. There that SOLVES THE PROBLEM, Not create more.

I fail to see how anything I have suggested ruins the game for Anaconda pilots in general.

Your idea doesn't address the issue at hand, The actual reason why you're coming up with this idea can be solved so much more simpler there doesn't need to be so much useless clutter to prevent something so easy to fix.

Even with the chaff fixed I imagine in-station ramming would still be an option, but there are a million ways to solve that too, hopefully more of which have already been discussed in dev meetings than in forum meetings. Off the top of my head, they could transmit a few simple rules upon approaching the station, and then for example exceeding an arbitrary in-station speed limit could cause some Future Science Magic to remotely cut your ship's power, or force thrusters to decrease speed. I assume the basic design allows for these disgustingly cheap tactics because they didn't expect people to be quite so easily amused.
