Hull integrity - being in Supercruise doesn't hurt you, just travelling does

Since when counter-pirating you're spending a lot of time in supercruise, I wondered what exactly causes hull integrity damage in supercruise. So I bought a sidewinder and tested it

First, I just left the station and immediately put throttle to zero.

Cruising for 30 minutes in supercruise in front of the station (minus a few interdictions...)

Did not hurt my integrity.

Then I undocked again, but this time I did not stop. Full throttle forward for 15 minutes.

Back home after another 10 minutes, 25 minutes of supercruise with full throttle caused this much integrity damage

So conclusion: Just being in supercruise doesn't damage your ship. It's the distance travelled. So you can sit in a piracy hot zone at 30km/s perfectly fine for a long time, it won't hurt your integrity.

I wonder if the integrity loss could be reduced, for example by flying with a speed in the blue comfort zone. Did you test that?

Is it related to the speed you get up to? I flew out to Voyager 2 Million Ls from Sol and got up to well over 1000C. Integrity damage was massive when I got back

Going full throttle plays a part. Just done a nearly 14000ls round trip and never went above 75% throttle in SC and only suffered 2cr of damage, the integrity was still 100% (sidey).

Distance (one way)

Does anyone know if the value and power status of modules has any affect? When out exploring I've taken to powering down anything non-essential, so i tend to just have my life support, FSD, sensors, scanners and a heat sink powered up. My last trip (about 3 weeks out, quite a lot of long distance supercruise) cost me 377k in my Asp (down to 16% integrity).

hull integrity is damaged randomly when you interdict now as well Even if you are 100% blue and no red, there is a chance for integrity damage and hull damage (roughly 2% hull). This seems to be mitigated by having an FSD that is above your mass and/or top end FSD interdictors.

I purchased both simultaneously so I can't tell you which benefited for sure but my "hull integrity compromised" messages definitely were reduced after I did that.

Still, this annoying as hell. I can now expect roughly 10k in repairs (about 70% of which is hull integrity) even if my enemies dont even scratch me each time I go out and get 80-100k in bounties.

also, repair all should _REPAIR ALL_ FD. I shouldn't have to then dive into a menu and repair integrity. My in-game character is speaking to lawyers about a class action lawsuit against the station mechanics unions regarding this false advertisement.

This, it is speed that does the damage, not supercruise itself, and you know it isn't surprising that when you travel at (seems to be) above 600c/s that it damages your ship.

It was always the distance travelled in SC that caused the damage and not the time spent.

this is an obnoxious reply for a moderator like have some manners. Thanks Quineloe I did wonder what it was now I know if i stay close i'll take less damage, and won't have to suffer that immense 500k/10% repair

i didn't detect any hostility in his reply

i did the 2,500,000Ls trip to the museum in Sol, my speed got to about 1470c i think during that run and that made a fair mess of my hull integrity

It wasn't hostile, obnoxious! Quineloe took the time to fly around wasting him time for something apparently common knowledge, i waved at him while i was in system but this is a question that until now nobody I knew that played the game could answer so it can't have been that obvious.

Just did a quick test to satisfy my curiosity. Flew my asp in a straight line up to 1000c then turned around and flew back to the station. First run with all modules powered up, then again with everything but life support, FSD, sensors powered down. Repair cost was within a couple of hundred credits (94% 25k) each time, although the second run i had to fight off an interdiction from an NPC cobra. Not what I wanted to be doing with all weapons and shields off, but managed to evade.

Museum, what have i been missing?
Is there an actual museum or do you mean you went there to have look at our solar system?
