(..) This close to buying a Clipper...

... I did my homework for how much I need(with insurance) and just need to rank uno mas time and she'll be all mine.

Any tips other than what I know from owning previous ships I may want to equip for this pretty little girl? Does she run hot or anything of the sort?

I do wish I could find a 10% ship special going on?

Be veeeeeeery careful the first time you take it out of the station through the letterbox. I discovered the hard way on mine that there are PRECISELY 4 microns to spare on all sides.

Saving 10% is always nice. The heat is no problem, at least i never had problem with it. Its quiet agile for its size. I happend to get stuck in the entrances a lot after getting the clipper because i underestimated the width of the wings so keep that in mind and dont boos out of the station ;). Otherwise its a nice ship, downside are the hardpoint placements on the wings making fixed weapons relativly useless.

GL and HF with your clipper.

Do yourself a favour and A-Spec it as soon as you can. Ever so ever so gently coax her out of the letterbox, whispering sweet-nothings into her dash......

Once out, extend into open airspace, find something to hold onto and hit the boost........

Woooaaaaaaa!

It's like embracing your wife while accidentally whispering your girlfriend's name in her ear halfway through nibbling her earlobe and then attempting to hang on while the poo strikes the fan!

Enjoy the Clipper - she's a Beauty!

Oh yes that view........Best in-game. Lovely to have an unobstructed view through the windscreen.

well... I'm not sure about there being little space on all sides through the letterbox...

I find it's not as wide as you'd think but definitely be careful until you've worked out the dimensions yourself... those wings do stick out somewhat..

my tip would be to make sure you get gimbled weapons on the wing mounts because fixed weapons on those slots simply don't work due to the massive distance between them. You'll figure that out the first time you deploy your guns and aim at something. Other than that I think in terms of upgrades get D grade stuff asap. and then just when you upgrade make sure you're above about 12LY and you'll be able to make most meaningful jumps. The fuel tank is tiny for the hullsize/tonnage so only expect to get 3 proper full length jumps out of it before you'll feel the need to refuel - so perhaps get a fuel scoop (just a small one would do) so you save yourself the embarressment of self destruction. :)

erm... yeah, have fun with it! amazing ship. Very fast, very agile.

She wont handle for squat in the hanger until you put some better thrusters on her.the power distributor and fsd are the primary upgrades.
she comes with a class 6 shield but has a 7 slot you can put a better one in.
on that note the clipper shields arent all that great so keep that in mind.
i run mine with c3 G beams and c2 G multicannons i can run down and kill pirates faster than the game can spawn them.
Steer for the most part with the rear thrusters and enjoy the sounds of the engines.
her mainenance costs will be much higher than anything you have flown up to this point.
But her drawbacks are shield strength and fuel tank size.

  • It's wide; acquaint yourself with this factor before entering tight places at high speeds.
  • Even if you think you're lined up with something, it probably still has a bit of momentum. For instance, I thought I was lined up with a stations exit, boosted, and the ship drifted upwards.
  • Insurance is expensive.
  • Its forward/back thrusters are great, but up/down/left/right are probably the weakest in the game. For this reason, it will have difficulty changing momentum, leading to drifting in combat and making you a somewhat easy target. Otherwise, its maneuverability is rather high.
  • With large total weight, it will dogtail to the left inside stations (lateral thrusters are too weak to perform rotational correction).
  • Generally, don't spend more than 5.5 million on a single component. This will mean 5A, 6B, and 7C equipment, excluding distributor/sensors. (trust me, the A grade equipment is only worth it once you have nothing else to spend your money on and plenty of insurance. 422 max speed with B grade thrusters, 439 with A. This falloff is exerienced on most ships, meaning B grade is the most practical relative to the ships original price.)
  • Probably tied with the cobra for fastest in the game.
  • Capable of mass locking almost anything.
  • Hardpoint location is horrendous; at most 1 fixed weapon can be used at a time. I've had some luck with the following loadouts:

PvE:

  • 2 large gimballed pulse, 2 medium gimballed multicannons.
  • ...Honestly anything will work for NPCs.

PvP:

  • 2 large burst turrets, medium gimballed beam, medium gimballed multicannon. (Turrets suffer from accuracy decay. By moving so the turrets can't fire and quickly moving back, tracking accuracy is reset. Turrets aren't effected by chaff. This is my most successful PvP build, for the limited amount it's engaged in. Medium weapons choice is undergoing experimentation.)
  • large fixed beam, large gimballed pulse, medium railgun, medium gimballed multicannon.
  • large fixed beam, 3 medium seeker racks (currently bugged and finicky even when working properly, functional in a limited capacity, but not recommendable).

Otherwise, good cargo space, underwhelming shields (but enough speed to make up for it), unique combat capability, small fuel tank, average jump range, great sounds.

I've never had an issue getting through the slot and often go through full throttle like I did with the cobra. Maybe because I moved to it from the T7 which I hit the slot with 80% of the time.

The ship is fine for PvE with minimal upgrades. I'd suggest saving 35-40 million credits so you can spend on upgrades and have 6M+ spare for insurance and cargo if you're going to trade with it.

For trading I drop down to class 3 shields for 240t cargo space. For the combat community goal I now have class 7 shields with class 6 SCB and it's been fine.
