1.2 New ships speculation.

Fer de lance has been confirmed. Now here's what we know so far:

Newsletter 61 Quote: "sneaking a look at March's Update 1.2 in our Peek Of The Week." / "The largest player-piloted Federal ship in Elite: Dangerous: the Core Dynamics Corvette"

Dev's quote on 1.2:
Update 1.2 will also contain two new playable ships – there will be more information on these in coming newsletters. These are two of our originally planned ships so aren’t part of the five additional ships mentioned in a previous newsletter.

Let the speculation begin...

Vulture. The ship the Python was pre-nerf. Will fill that gap. Can't see it being the Corvette, it's too out of reach and the majority of the player base want a believable goal to reach for so more mid-tier ships would be a good start.

We definitely know one of them is the Fer-de-Lance. My best guess would be the other one being the Corvette. We have some information on the Vulture but haven't even seen a concept picture. Given that FD have said they have ALL the ships there will ever be already down on paper in stats, it's not surprising they can tell us what the Vulture WILL be. At least the Corvette has a model concept design too.

Also, using the logic that we saw Fer-De-Lance concept art and then, shortly after, an in-game model, I suspect the second ship to be in 1.2 would be the second ship we saw concept art for in the Newsletters which, as it turns out, was also shown as a tease of the week for 1.2. That ship was the Corvette.

One of the first ships released was the Anaconda.

It's the Corvette. It's the only ship we've seen proper images of recently. And the newsletter all but said "THE CORVETTE IS COMING IN 1.2".

I think it is a bit too early for the Corvette. While I would like to see it I think it can wait a bit. Heavy fighter like the Vulture and then the shiny Fer De Lance should be next. Afterwards the Corvette can join the party.

everybody know that we miss a medium and a heavy fighter at the moment, so by logic it will be Fer-de-lance and Vulture.

My evidence to support the Corvette WILL be the ship we see in 1.2;

Newsletter #61: http://us2.campaign-archive1.com/?u=dcbf6b86b4b0c7d1c21b73b1e&id=bcdbac8930#contents

Scroll up from the contents list and read this text from the opening paragraphs; ''... and sneaking a look at March's update 1.2 in our Peek Of The Week.''

Now, scroll down to view the Peek Of The Week contained within Newsletter #61, the Peek that is confirmed to be linked to 1.2 and, bam, it's the Corvette concept art.

Now don't get me wrong, this isn't 100% confirmation yet, but I can only go by what evidence we actually have. We have NO evidence the Vulture is next but we do have some evidence that the Corvette is the other 1.2 ship. I'd rather believe that than speculation.

Dolphin along with some passenger missions.

I'd love to see this as it's the only option mentioned so far that opens up a new form of game play. All the others are just a new ship to continue doing exactly what we've been doing so far. It'd also give purpose (not porpoise) to the orca, and the possibility of including passenger cabins as upgrades to other non-passenger ships. It'd also fit with the DDA's thoughts that imperial slaves should never be carried as cargo, only as passengers.

This is actually one of the other reasons people feel the Corvette is a totally reasonable ship to see in 1.2;

The current Clipper is in full working order, but the Fed Dropship needs Passenger mechanics to be fully useful. It will be able to take passengers whereas the Clipper cannot.

It seems reasonable that the Corvette will be added in order to give Fed-supporting players a ship they can make full use of, given the fact that some of the Dropship's mechanics are missing.

Wether it's a dolphin, a corvette with cabins, or cabins added to a dropship is fairly irrelevant to me... I just want to see new ships come with new game play otherwise they're just different scenery on the same game as far as I'm concerned. Passenger missions may not be the most exciting gameplay variant, but at least it's something different and actually adds something to the current trading/bounty hunting/piracy/pew pew/mining choice of activities.

I actually agree with you 100%. The high point in Elite, for me, will be the day I can take out the Dropship and take passengers planet-side. Perhaps even science team to further increase my exploration rewards.

Sadly, I don't think that's going to happen just yet. 1.2 is two new ships and an expansion on multiplayer interaction. No outright new mechanics for us yet :(
