Newcomer / Intro almost type 7

so im nervewrecking myself to buy a type 7. need only a couple more millions. have 15.2M CR.

i have the trade route planned out. but how much do i need to fit it with reasonable parts?

im in a type 6 now and i get around 1.8M CR each route, so back and forth would be 3.6M CR.

do i sell the type 6 to afford parts for type 7?

right. gotchya. why is it that D class parts are always less massy than the others?

the same reason an 1100 CC car engine is smaller than a 2000 CC engine, because they are not as powerful so don't need as much mass to generate/consume that power.

I wouldn't buy the T7 until I have at 23-25 mio. credits (You also need cr. to fill the +200 Tonnes of cargo space...)
And if you make 3,6 mio cr. pr roundtrip it shouldn't be long before you are able to buy the T7 ;)

Think of E class as your bottom of the range car engine 1100 cc as Andy B said, solid and dependable.
Class D is the same size as E but its an aluminum engine, a lot lighter but more prone to problems (which is why D usually has worse integrity than E, you are really paying for lighter parts not better parts)
Class C is a bigger but still bottom of the range engine maybe a standard 2000 cc engine. Heavier than D & E with a performance increase to compensate.
Class B is a bigger engine again 2500 cc but again you get more weight for an increase in performance.
Class A is the race engine, 2000 cc bored out to 2500 cc so you not only get extra power but from a lighter engine making this the best.

That may not be a perfect example but it sort of sums up how weight vs performance goes, its the same sort of philosophy for all upgradeable parts from sensors through to power supply.

zaonce -> lave -> diso -> leesti -> uszaa -> orrere -> epsilon indi -> altair -> zeessze -> george pantazis -> 39 tauri -> fujin -> wolf 1301 -> momus reach -> witchhaul -> tanmark -> utgaroar -> delta phoenicis.

on the way from zaonce, fill up cargo hold to max, then sell at delta phoenicis, from delta phoenicis, fill up and sell at zaonce, lave or leesti. should be around 120 - 150 LY.

but for simplicity, http://eliteraretrader.co.uk/?route...,31,1,30,77,55,79,67,73,22,16,52&name=100 Ton

and idk why im still a merchant trader... been haulin for 3 nights, 8 - 10 hours each... but gl :D

^ This. I made the mistake of upgrading to a T7 with around 19 million credits. Then discovered that I didn't have enough range to jump to the system I normally traded with, didn't have enough to upgrade the FSD and still have enough for insurance and buying trading goods. I had to go back to a Cobra for trading for a day, then spent a couple more evenings trading in the T7 at less than full capacity, slowly increasing the goods I was hauling and upgrading the parts.
That said, when you can carry over 200 units for the first time, it's a great feeling - especially when you see those profits rolling in.
