Newcomer / Intro obscured dashboard

Hello,
I am trying to learn combat.
When I go up, I notice that part of the dashboard becomes obscured ... the targeting part.
As a result, I can't really tell where my target is until I level off and can see the whole target radar again.
How do I turn this stupid feature off?
I tried putting focus on the target panel but then the forward view becomes overly reduced as to become useless.
I don't know what the designers are trying to do here. When a pilot pulls back on the stick in a real aircraft, parts of the control panel don't disappear.

Try holding the "UI Focus" button (LShift by default), it will zoom out slightly, allowing you to have a greater field of view.

There is a slider in the options that allows you to change your default field of view. Helped me quite a bit.

The intention is to mimic the way a pilot would be thrown about in his seat as the ship moves about. Kind of like driving really fast and taking a sharp turn in your car... the only thing holding you in place is your seat belt but you still get tossed about a bit. This is really cool and immersive for folks with head tracking software/hardware or wearing an oculus rift. Not so cool for those of us with plain old monitors.

That worked ... thanks ... originally I didn't think it worked but after several resumes it kicked in ... weird.
