Progammed Grieving

Why would a NPC - Cobra MK-3 (with what looked to me rail-guns) ever interdict and bother a Sidewinder with a cargo of domestic appliances.
No request to hand over the cargo. No communication at all... just shoot.
I hate grieving and I especially hate grieving by bored programmers.

Yes... whoever programmed this... I report you guilty of grieving. Go and get another job. Go and kick the cat... or the dog.
This kind of programming really sours the game for me.

yes... if I had a class 6 or 7 hauler with a million or more in goods... this I would understand... if there was at least
a request to hand over the goodies....but pots and pans? Come on... that is childishness to the max.

and yes... I escaped by the seat of my pants because the Cobra MK-3 is really a slow boat.... still...
right now the game AI programming makes no sense at all.

Change it.

Its basic command and control. Start with the weak and work your way up. Perhaps the pirates freezer had broken down. Oh and its griefing....grieving is what happens when my slave dies.;)

Booty is booty arrrr....and if you had sweaty palms and elevated heart rate trying to escape with your pots and pans then I think the AI programming did its job just fine.

Well they are npc's their behavior is programmed for a variety of things, note you probably just missed the communication, as all of them seem to do that now, and if you don't drop cargo fast, they fire.

And it is random, you were unlucky, it happens, you survived, take a breath, fix up and fly on. It is called Elite Dangerous after all.

Take control of your own starship in a cut-throat galaxy.

Start with a small starship and a few credits, and do whatever it takes to get the skill, knowledge, wealth and power to stand among the ranks of the Elite.

Getting attacked is what the game is about. If you are expecting to be doing safe trading runs 24/7 you're going to be disappointed. You said you got away. So why complain? It probably spiced up an otherwise dull evening. The devs did you a service.

Sorry... I do not agree... just now... two short 3 min trips and three interdiction.. two of which were by NPC pirates who did shoot without any reason. I did not deploy hardpoints
and was waiting for communication of some sort... nothing. And no.. I have no warrant placed on me either. Some programmer got their fingers crossed... it is wee bit to much me thinks.

maybe we all should ask FD to implement a REAL solo-mode......where solo means
- no players
- no NPC´s
- no planets and suns (they also grief, as they jump in my way all the times and also slow me down if i manage to pass them)
- no stations (they grief me, because of this stupid rotation....its not avoidable to enter a station without the need of using roll)

just me and my ship!

If you throttle up after interdiction, scan the other ship, or deploy hardpoints after interdiction, you are guaranteed to be attacked by an NPC even if all they are after is cargo.

Try throttling down and waiting. If you are empty, there is a chance you will just be left alone. I've tested this out and it works.

A weapon, unused, is a useless weapon...

...sudden urge to watch Spies Like Us...

Well, I TOTALLY agree with everything said, and if David Braben doesn't give me a FULL REFUND, in person, then I'm going to write to my MP. And the Queen. Yawn.

Christ, all of the AI programming makes no sense at all? I bet the Devs will weep at that-one - their hard-work was pointless, obviously. Welcome to the world of game AI: sometimes it works great, sometimes not, sometimes in-between.

Sorry you feel that way, but for some people, especially if they have lost someone/something close to them, its the only way to get over the loss.

he's an easy, worthless target. Pirate AI needs to start behaving like player pirates -> Cargo scan, if cargo is worthless, move on.

Apart from the 'pirates' that open up without comms and continue until there's just a ball of expanding gas, of course.

This is the answer to the Solo/Open battle, decent NPC griefers. People complain about people getting it easy on Solo, if NPCs become as Good, Bad or Ugly as the PCs the advantage disappears and we all become equal.
.
Welcome to elite

Have you played open? Players don't necessarily do this.

I think Pirates should come in all "shapes and sizes": some doing as you said, but others are just homicidal maniacs out to kill someone, anyone, regardless of ship or cargo. Gentleman pirates? Sometimes!
