Exactly and if I went with 2 cards I wouldn't have room for my beloved X-Fi Fatality.(too bad FD have borked the sounds tho...)
I second the recommendation to get a good single card instead of two lower end ones. I'd say go for a single GTX 960, they're selling for around $200.
It will be *much* faster than what you have now, and you won't have to deal with SLI profiles and bugs.
Agree totally with this, I was running SLI set ups for a number of years thinking it was more cost efficient. While it was slightly the SLI profiles being late/bugged started to annoy me. When I moved back to single card (went from SLI 560 to single 670) it was so much better. Also PC running cooler and quiter.
Only way I would consider SLI now is if I went to a 4k/multi monitor and the best single card couldn't handle it.
I've seen discussions on the 2 vs. 1 card go both ways... most seem to point toward a single card as you suggest.
I may go with the single card for now, and then maybe when I have another $300-400 laying around grab another.
With that in mind (and I do have a preference for NVidia cards) maybe a single GTX 970? ...might be in the $330-$350 range.
Dual GTX 960's would run about $400 maybe.
I can't see myself bumping up to the GTX980 for like $600 though.
So you all would go with a single 970 over dual 960's?
I have a single 970 and all games I play including the latest like Far Cry 4 ands Dragon Age Inquisition I can max at 1080p at 60+ fps. Elite running at 2715 x 1527 (downscaled using Nvidia DSR) runs at 100+fps
I use nividia 550m graphics card and can run ED the card and computer are about 5-6 years old...not on high but I can run it..I get stuttering in SC when approaching close to a planet but thats about it. And I am running the 347.52 driver that was just released the other day.
I think you'll have no trouble picking up a couple of 560Ti's or 570's (my setup) within your budget, then enjoy stutter & corruption-free 1080P goodness
You get no stutters at all? Not even upon entering hyperspace?
I just recently bought a gtx980, though I used to play on a gtx560ti alone. It was completely fine for this game without the Rift. I would lag in combat zones on the rift, and my framerate wasn't stellar. If you've been playing on 512vram, you will notice a significant improvement on a gtx560ti.
I think you've been told plenty, but yeah... 6months old graphics drivers are not new. GFX drivers come out bi-weekly sometimes more sometimes less.
Also, truly having the latest driver isn't really the best either. Sometimes it's good to lag behind if you have a really solid performing driver. Sometimes updates cause trouble and you end up going back.
