Might turn the pre flight check list back on.....

Decided to have a couple of hours fun with Elite.

Plugged in the TrackIR and x-52 Pro.
Started Elite, picked up a couple of fetch missions, planned my route, hit the launch button.
Decided to get a can of Coke from the fridge while I waited for the pad rotate/blast ramp lowering animation.
Came back to see my ship heading to the station wall at full pelt.
Kaboom, bye bye Asp.

Forgot to check throttle was zeroed.......

Thank god for insurance....

haha, for some reason the deadzone i set in elite resets every time i boot up the game, and if i forget to change it back i make a slight adjustment and i go flying and slam into the station doors x.x

I fly with a joystick leaving my mouse on the desk for trades, etc.

Started launch sequence and got a ping for a new email. CTRL - TAB to the email proggie to see who it was from. Used the mouse to highlight the window and CTRL - TAB'd back to the game. Three seconds at most. As soon as locking clamps disengage, my ASP noses into the deck at a 45 degree angle and slid sideways into some support gear. Takes me a while to figure out the mouse is causing unwanted direction changes. I nullify it, but meanwhile the countdown timer is running down and I need to get out. Raise up and head for the slot. Meet a Lakon Heavy coming in. Grinding, metal tearing, etc. before beating me back into the station. As I sit there trying to get reoriented the loiter alarm goes off. Finally get the ASP reoriented to face the door and encounter an Orca arriving. I avoid by thrusting down out of his flight path, but meet the wall under the slot. Orca passes above so I pop up and begin yawing to line up for exit and get back ended by a T-7 leaving. More grinding of metal, but I get past. At this point my sheilds took the brunt of it. Try to boost away to clear the loiter alarm when the station opens up on me. 135,000 in repair costs.

Not my best day.

Sounds a lot like my local Waitrose car park on a Saturday morning :)

I've read stories of similar accidents elsewhere, or even just that people are frustrated that they can't abort a Launch sequence once pressed. Each time, I wonder why anyone would press Launch from the hangar bay instead of Return to Surface? If you know you're going to be inattentive, it seems like the logical choice.

I'm illogical, I guess. Also a not very diligent spaceship pilot.....

Yeah I'm guilty of some of these docking shenanigans, pretty much do my own Pre-Flight checks,

Destination - check
Cargo/Mission - check
Throttle to zero - check
Fuel/Ammo/Hull Repair - check
Relieve Bladder - check
Coffee Machine on - check
Pizza & Snacks - check
Is it the weekend? then check fridge for Beer, Coffee machine off! - check
Double check Beer - check

Ready for Launch!

Sensible advice, FD should put it in the manual...

If you're pressed for time trying to escape the station because of something like this, just exit to the main menu and log back in. I feel utterly disgusting for suggesting it; but if you don't want to lose your ship...

Double check beer? What? In case some went missing between checking the beer and switching the coffee machine off? :p

If you accidentally press the launch button, just spam the Enter Station button, and you'll end up inside the station instead. Works like a charm. :)
