Fer-de-Lance ! What do we know?

Oh gawd another multi role? When are we going to get some dedicated fighters? 90% of the ships are at least part trader, when are fighters or pirates going to get some love?

It's not coming March. The patch will be delayed because this is law of game development -everything is delayed. Expect it May in Beta and two month after that in current release.

Half the player base if not more is waiting for this patch. Delay it and you lose those people. Its an important patch and it will show the community if they are capable of delivering content. Its not in their interest to screw it up.

Patch 1.1 was on time, so I see no reason why 1.2 won't be. That's not to say development dates don't slip, but if 1.1 was on time we can at least have cause for optimism.

Mark my words, FD will deliver the patch 1.2 ready or not in March (QA is laughable so it will pass QA warts and all).

Then patch 1.3 the following month will the next great nerf patch targeting the FDL as they got the balance wrong.
Every ship they have introduced has had a balancing pass after it was added right back to Beta's and Alphas...

HA. You haven't been here long have you. FD will release it in march. Even If they shouldn't because it's bugged. Any other time you would be right but these guys never delay anything, even if they should. (like the full release)

But back on topic, the main appeal of the Python was it was a beast in combat. There's a need for a semi-large ship that's main focus is combat and FD need to make something available in that void. A ship in the Asp price range is mainly what we want so I'm hoping the FDL is it.

Watch it not be in any way :p

Way too many CR tied up in one of those to BH with it.

Cobra, Viper, or even an Asp (which I'm using right now) but not a Clipper.

I BH in my Clipper. It's not that much more expensive to run than a ASP. The repair cost can be higher, but the key to that is don't take any hull damage. I don't just BH though, that's more for fun. If I want to make a chunk of change fast I run regular or rare cargo. Then once I have a chunk of change I go back to fun stuff like BH and warzones.

The costs are way too high for my taste...

I don't run Shield Cells so I inevitablly get my hull a little bruised up...in a Clipper that'll blow through the Bounties with just a few scratches...

I bounty hunt and do conflict zones in a over 9 million re-buy Python. No doubt it hurts when you loose it but that has only happened to me once and was an idiotic mistake on my part so i deserved it. That happened yesterday and I made up 5 million of it right after. I will be back where I was tonight after I get off work so not too bad.

It's very pretty, but it looks like it'll have the worst field of view of any ship (so far) in the game... And you're meant to fight in it???

"Fer de lance" is a french name.
The name sound like a Combat ship as main purpose.
Make no sense if it's for Trading or Exploring.

Original role description from the '84 manual -

FER-DE-LANCE
A Zorgon Petterson Group (Zee Pee Gee) designed vessel favored by well- heeled bounty hunter and freewheeling business corporations. A sophisticated craft, capable of both limited trading, combat, and leisure function. The spacious hull is mainly given over to sophisticated weaponry, defences and navigation equipment at the expense of cargo capacity. Cabin accommodation is large and luxurious with extensive Owndirt Inc. recycling facilities, encouraging extended live-in periods (useful whilst pursuing a quarry). Fuel scoop is a standard fitting, ensuring complete self-sufficiency.

It looks to sit somewhere between the Cobra and Asp in size - gauging from the size of the maneuver-thrusters. But being more multi-role and combat oriented, I'd expect a starting price in the 3-5 million range, 5-6 hardpoints and 3-4 utility mounts. Internal fittings is anyones guess.

Looking forward to get more detailed information on it. We certainly need more ships in general, and in the mid-price range especially.

How many people Bounty Hunt in a Clipper?
I do, it's fun I just nuke everything in the conda so I take out arguably the best ship to experience flying in and have fun. It's cheap and the rebuy is cheap. Weapon mounts aren't that bad but the shields suck for their price.
flying a ship that big that can run down anything but a cobra with class 3 hardpoints yes please.

Thats one thing we need more, it's Weapon's. there is hardly any to choose from, in fact the variety is pretty tiny. I'm seriously hoping for Faction based weapons, considering the 3 empires are in a cold war. You'd think we'd see some variety or difference in weapons and investments in military technology.

FER-DE-LANCE looks like an awesome ship. But we need dedicated fighters, the multi-roll ships seem to be the bulk. I'm sure there will be more later on, im still trying to save for a cobra lmao

I hope that's just fluff talk, because we don't need more super expensive ships, we need more ships in the few-million-range.

NO we need alot more ships in the sidewinder - Cobra range. It's just silly that there are far more diversity in expensive large ships than there are in the smaller vessels. That goes against the history of any vehicle production line, whether it be boats/ships, cars/Trucks or Cessnas/figher jets.

I exclusivly bounty hunted all the way up to an upgrade A Class ASP. Had no issues running and ASP on a hunters income.

Now I bounty hunt in Clipper, including the occasional Elite Conda mission, though interdicting with less than a 100K bounty isn't worth it. Though I still do anyway because sometimes it's just fun to pull over a wanted sidey in a clipper and send them of with a warning.

You can make more than enough to cover the running expenses though, but it'll take a long time to upgrade the ship hunting alone.

Now I'm trading and hunting, 70/30 mix. I've found I actually quite like trading, at time it can even be exciting when you ferret out a good profit.

I'm nomadic and I'll cover 200 LY in the course of a 2 hour play session, now I've got enough in the bank for a Python with moderate upgrades. But I LOVE the clipper in an very unhealthy way.

Now I could make more money grinding out trade routes, and using trade tools. But the tool take all the sense of adventure and discovery out of trading, it's no wonder people get so bored of the game so quickly if they just following set routes from a website.

Well actually there are several cheap ships to chose from:
- Sidewinder
- Eagle
- Hauler
- Adder
(all under 100.000)
- Viper
- Cobra
(under 500.000)

THEN there's just the T6 below 1mil and suddenly it gets hugely expensive with the Asp.

I agree however that a wider variety of smaller ships below 1 million credits would probably increase the variety of ships we see flying around.

When the devs make the FDL according to the specs of 1984 Elite it will be a little smaller, about as fast and less manoeuvreable than a Cobra which would make it properly useless. :) So I guess they've reinvented it to be something else. I'm still hoping for a nimble dedicated fighter about as fast but more manoeuvreable than the Viper with one three medium and two small hardpoints Class 4-5 thrusters and shields and low hull strength, so when the shields go you're toast.

Assuming the round thing in the top is a hard point, I'm expecting one large and two medium (below) kind of like a bigger adder. I think ZPG have odd numbers of hard points, albeit there are only two other ships by them so far.
