My faith is restored

Yep, I had taken a little break and this update got me to fire the game back up again. I sold my Viper and picked up a Type 6 and flew it out to Yembo to haul metal for the new station. It has been a complete blast, I'm running unarmed but I am packing defenses and countermeasures so I can have a fighting chance and it has worked out. I lost one T6 on the first day of hauling due to some bad decisions on my part but I just paid out my insurance and didn't look back. I've since recovered that money and then some. It has been super profitable and fun hauling with all of this activity going on, and with all of the market stress. It's been a chance to use my head and nerves and it has been a blast playing tag with the pirates. The station traffic has been a lot of fun too. This type of activity is bringing out the potential I've known is there, so great work, I look forward to more updates and a bright future for the game if you keep this up, Frontier.

When the game gets fixed up in all the right places, (I'm looking at 1.2 maybe 1.3?) I hope, I think the game will come to life.
Then I can start playing again. I'm looking forward to it.

Ultimately, I think Elite Dangerous is what you make it.

I do think it is going to be more difficult to go solo without a hefty bankroll. Otherwise, I think it's going to get more interesting as traders and bounty hunters band together to get the trade through - and pirates start grouping up in flotillas to counter that...some large battles are bound to ensue. I think epic times are ahead.

Cheers!

I have to say that once they fix the piracy and bounty system I think we can all draw a line and move on.

Personally I would like FDev to make all NPC ships harder so it becomes more of a challenge for players and PvP could become just a side line as an extra part of fun and not the whole point of the game. I believe that if NPC's were made harder to kill players would see them as a challenge more than killing noobees in noob systems.

Agreed. But they should not forget to increase the rewards accordingly.
In 1.1, difficulty has been increased, expenses have increased and rewards have not.

+1 for that post. Elite is by all means an interactive experience between players, be it in combat or other aspects. And i am really looking forward to the coming updates, when the non-combat interaction features get richer.

Right back atcha, because it will be "richer" for sure.

You never played the original then? You rarely made a single run without having to fight. You couldn't fly without shields and guns then, that would be stupid. And this game is its spiritual sequel.

Can't wait for the FSD cool own time to be extended, make trading dangerous and yes, I'm primarily a trader myself.

I was Elite in the original Elite 2 or 3 times, so I knew the game well.
If memory serves me correctly then in the beginning you had to fight to trade.
Trade was the only way to make credits to improve your ship.
After a week or less you had a pretty invincible ship with great shields and lasers, mostly military.
You go trade in High tech Democratic systems and never see a Pirate or go to an Anarchy system and blow the Pirates away
with your superior firepower and Shields etc, Sort of like the Pre Nerf Python last week.
The thinking part and real fun part came with the richness of the later games but unfortunately lost out a little to the games bugs.
But these games and Chris Roberts Wing Commander series started all the Space games off properly.
I waited all this time for the new Elite and just hope it does not turn into Eve.
But You play your game and I will play mine and maybe we wont meet.
So have fun but not without the other players agreement.
Yes I don't mind being Interdicted and have no chance of escape and have to give up my hard earned cargo and pay ludicrous repairs bills as an innocent party.
No I would rather play Coop not be a victim in an unfair fight, sorry shutting up now. Have a good day.

Its not PvP, its Player interacts with player.

Exactly, thank you.

Apologies but you may have missed my point or I missed yours. I'm no PvPer, my point is that fighting (player, NPC, whatever) is (or rather should be) an unavoidable consequence of playing Elite. This game has watered that all down allowing shields/guns to be removed etc. So many people seem to not want to be interrupted from their constant trading back and forth etc.

And no, I don't want to see this turn into Eve either. God forbid.

That's what i've been saying for a while, Player interaction can be about so much more that just dogfighting each other, that's why multiplayer is the way forward for this game. But they have to get the balancing just right and not there yet

+1

but you cant be having fun. this is an empty sandbox remember? a mile wide and an inch deep and lacking in real choice and things to do. thats what people keep telling me....

Well the basic foundations are there, some work to be done and back story needs more effort. What FD really need is to get the framework just right, and let the players build the content....
