Starting to trade

Playing in solo is fine but not if you ever plan on coming back into open play.

What that says is...when I'm starting out I want to play on my own without being hassled by other players, once I'm established I'll happily come back into open in my tooled up ship. It is cheating regardless of if it's allowed or not.

It's just an extended version of combat logging....I'll play in open only when the terms suit me. When they don't I'll logout. Long term combat logging if you like.

This attitude is detrimental to the game, it seems many people are too scared to "be the target" which is why all you around lave are cobras and vipers and the odd soul in a hauler brave enough to actually play the game.

So by your logic, playing the off-line campaign of an fps before heading into multiplayer is cheating?
Is playing in isolated systems cheating? Is making money in exploration cheating?
Maybe you are cheating since your balance isn't reset every time a new player comes on, or simply because you have prior knowledge?
.
It's easy to say everyone else is cheating after you've become established yourself. Play the way you want to, but don't call it cheating when others play the game the way they want to.

Yes I'd like to ignore all the open/solo stuff....I shouldn't have use the C word earlier.

I can see just using a cobra makes sense.I want to give this a shot though to see how it goes....Think I'll have a play later on with heat seekers and mines.....

Are people in type 6's and above trading standard goods in general then? You could never hop to fill up on rares could you. They'd just supplement your income en route.

I know that viper is a bit better at close combat, but consider for the escort to fly a cobra. Much better FSD-range (more closely to T6) + some cargo which translates into quite a nice sum if the escort does some rare trading as well. And a cobra really is not bad at fighting.

My buddy is quite attached to his viper, he's a spec-ed it pretty much.....I'll keep my cobra though for when I escort him.

Can the turrets on the type 6 actually fire behind you? it'd be nice if we did have the rear view as in the original game, could even lockon missiles without having to turn around.

Amen to that! Im not experienced with turrets but i would stick with Lasers as they seem to eat ammo for cannons etc.

With one decent run he can buy a cobra without selling his viper and with a few more runs have it kitted out good and proper. PM me your commander name and ill make a point not to pirate you :)

T6 is on the fence. You can trade rares with it to break the monotony, yet a good trade route can easily net you over 1.2 million per hour. It seems rares spawn less no matter where I go, loading up a T6 will take a lot of stops and you probably don't want to hang on to them longer than you need to in the first place.
An Asp with jump range over 30ly is better for rare trading, no need for an escort either. Yet if you can afford a capable asp, you're much better off running a T7 if you're after money.
.
Trading rares is very lucrative if you're still in the Hauler stage, good for Cobra, then it becomes more of a sightseeing tour with some nice cash on the side.
I guess you can both go in Cobra's, take turns picking up the rares in each station. What actually happens if you both buy them at the same time? I've never seen them disappear. It should have happened at least once by now that someone else snatched them from right under my nose.

quick update....my mate has more cash then me so he got a type 6 and we spent the evening filling up on rares around lave. The only interdictions to be seen where the feds trying to catch my cobra. So, 3 NPC interdictions in about an hours play.(I'm not very popular with the factions in that area)

So far so easy......Also managed to get on voicecomms with another couple of players who seemed pretty cool. Hopefully we'll get a little fleet together, this is how it's meant to be played. Excellent stuff. :)

Not really, just trying to encourage people into open, we play an hour a day if we're lucky. If we can survive I'm sure others can.....you might not make money as fast but it's far more interesting for everyone.
