Upgrade protocols

I am sporting an Asp that is "A" rated across the board. I can haul 96 tons of stuff and defend it (or run like hell if need be) quite nicely.

I would like to move to a T-7 to increase my earning ability. This purchase will mean "trading in" the Asp to generate the money needed.

Now I know I lose 10% of the Asp's (and the upgraded modules) value when I trade.

For all those lovely "a" grade accessories I have installed I want as much of the investment recovered as I possibly can. So bear with me while I ask this,,,,,,,,,,

When I sell a module back during the purchase of a new one, the game gives me the option to "buy it back" while I am in the upgrade process. Does that option remain when I am done selling the modules and have traded my ship in?

It was quite the trek finding all the "A" grade goodies I equipped my Asp with and don't relish the thought of leaving with my shiny new T-7 being equipped at less than that.

Does the station hang on to my "trade ins" so that I can buy them back when I have the new ship?

Now I have made enough money to just outright buy a Cobra and a T-6 and max them both out but would prefer to just jump right into the T-7 and start maximizing my trade runs. I can always take the profits from that and begin my my separate ship purchases later.

I'd say: yes you can, but i'm only 90% sure.

I always sell all modules before ship change to get their full value back. i'm 90% sure, that afterwards with the new ship i had the "buy back" button. don't launch/dock directly after buying the new one, then the buy back is lost.

I think you are correct OP - what I did was swap the modules for rubbish/undersized ones in the outfitters, kept the hull (not traded), bought a T7 and fitted the A-rated stuff to that. The T7 makes money so quickly I was able to pop back to the outfitters a few hours later and refit my Asp with the bits I needed for exploration etc.

If you do not sell the old hull, you effectively lose nothing in depreciation and IMHO at least one Asp is worth hanging on to for future adventures :)

Thanks for the replies. Hmmmmm I might have to grind a bit longer to be able to keep the T-6 ship and still have enough to "A" grade my new ship.

I will also have to find a station that stocks all the modules I want. Because (and I am guessing here) if a station does not stock any type of a certain module, I would not be able to sell what I have.

As Wenkman said, until you undock you do indeed have the buyback option of any modules you sell/downgrade separate from the trade-in so fitting some of the modules onto the T7 is possible, and either way selling the modules means you don't lose the 10% on anything but the hull - reducing your losses to about 650k on an Asp - not that much when T7 trading.

**Edit - You can sell modules they don't sell and indeed still buy them back.

**2nd Edit for clarity - I don't think buybacks will persist past logout

That's only if you return the Asp to stock, if you really gut it and fit it out with hilariously bad parts you will probably lose even less money :)

I shudder to think what the salesman had to do to sell my old T6 once I'd finished fitting it out with the worst of every type of module I could find...
