Best Way To Move Forward in Elite Dangerous

I realize that trading is important and have started to get serious about that. I currently have $1.6m in the bank. My plan is to save up $2M by bounty hunting, then start moving towards Earth. I'm getting a little bored hunting out here in the boonies at Boswell (LTT18486) in my Cobra. I'd like to find another good place which would be in the vicinity of Earth, with both opportunities for bounty hunting and trading, trying to figure out the best central location, move there and buy a Type 6 hauler. Is there a center of the developed galaxy or is it all spread out? The goal would be able to jump from a fighter to a hauler without having to travel more than 9LYs, possible?

My understanding is that for the SOL system, a permit is required. That you must do missions in surrounding areas, to build up trust with SOL before you can use their facilities? Anyone doing this and is it worth it? If so, if you would not mind explaining a good way to approach this?

How about Open vs Private Play. I'm mostly playing in a private guild group which means mostly I don't see anyone in game.

I'd like to see people, but I wonder how many idiots are out there? If you kill another player, is all you get a measly 600 Cr fine?

On second thoughts, let's not go to Sol. Tiz a silly place.

I wouldn't bother with setting up in Sol, there are better places for trading and interesting things happening. It's not a great system for getting your hands on stuff. And there are some annoying systems in the vicinity which makes it a drag to operate from.

Take an afternoon and go visit it, do the tourism thing, but then go elsewhere.

Nobody with any sense will divulge their good trade run. I have one that makes me 350k, on a 1 jump round trip, in a 120T Asp and it takes 11 mins to complete it

I'm familiar with the link. I'm speaking of general central locations, not the specifics of your secret.

You can also always move forward with trading. I do like to choose some system far away and then trade my way there, buying and selling all improvised on the go.

It is not really the most profitable way of trading, but I do make good Money and have a lot of fun. I also don't have to worry if the supply/demand is very low, I don't come back. On the way I make some notes of very good looking system to trade I run into, should I want to settle down somwhere for a while.

Last night I had earned $1,985,000 and decided it was time to blow Boswell Station and head for a more central location. The idea is to find a good base for trading and bounty hunting, some place where I can easily jump from bounty hunting in my Cobra, into my Type 6 hauler (which I have yet to purchase) and go trading. I'm looking for a high tech system in close proximity to RESs (extraction zones) so I can easily jump back and forth between the two activities. Yet to find that setup yet.

At this point, SOL does not even have to be the destination. I'd like to clarify if SoL has both the high tech and RESs? thanks!

I pulled up the Galaxy map with the intention of moving away from Boswell (LTT 18386). My first goal was to locate a good system with a high tech station, likely RESs (ringed planet) and with an eye on trading, an agriculture station the same or a nearby system. Although I acknowledge that moving metals to refinerys might be a bigger money maker. Daunting I tell you!

Then for trading, I looked for a section of the spider web (Galaxy trade routes) where there were many systems close to one another, ideally in the vicinity of a high tech system. One problem with the Galaxy map is that it's too large and spread out. You can select a system, which moves the center of the map, but because the map is so big, it's hard to keep your bearings. I've been trying to find something in the direction of SOL, just because, but realize there could be other areas more suited for trading. In my starter location, LHS 3447 there seems to be a density of systems, but no close by high tech systems. I want to have my eyes open before I relocate 70Ly away. With a 11LY jump range, that distance seems daunting, yes doable, but still quite a commitment. Still researching options!

I wouldn't base near the rare run run routes - especially Lave sectors. Go out near the frontier and find a High Tech with nearby trade opportunities. If you have the cash, buy an adder and explore till u have found what you want.

Although I realize it's constantly changing, is there an established line or vicinity that designates the frontier?

Pick a direction, go a minimum of 200ly and setup shop at a good cluster of systems.

Alot of CMDRs are hovering around the spawn points. If you are a pirate, this makes sense. For everything else, find you a good system farther away. You'll make more money and still be able to enjoy every facet of the game. When you get lonely, kit out a Corbra, and head back to the CMDR dominated "sheep" systems and rack up kills.
