Final Impressions of the Yembo Community Goal !!! (not for fans)

Man: Hahaha. You there! I need help building my house. Come and join?
You: Ok... what's in it for me?
Man: Hahaha. Wait and see! :)
-----------
Time passes
-----------
You: Aaaaah... I've worked day and night for you. Carried thousands of tons of materials on my back for your house. Left all my other work behind. Fought my way through the nests of vermin that you have let flourish around your house. Just to help you. I'm so tired. Is it finished?
Man: Hahaha. Yes, it's finished. Thank you.
You: But... I just kinda wanted to see it being built?
Man: Hahaha. No, no, no. Then I would have to SHOW it to you, and that would be extra work for ME. Hahaha. No, no. Just take pride that you helped me finish my house. Look! It's just like all the other houses in the street!
You: Oh. So... Do I get anything for my effort?
Man: Hahaha. Yes of course! Here is a real copper penny, just for you!! Buy something nice for yourself.
You: But....
Man: Hahaha. Go do something else, worthless minion. And just so you know... If I catch you loitering on my pad ...err... lawn, I'll shoot you in the face.

Hey guys, i just checked the space station is their now, i took a screenie.

I think it was a bit rushed though and released too early.

Lucky we get to use our great imagination in this game. My ship looks like this, in my mind.

On a more serious note now...

You know what the most difficult thing is in 'Elite'?

It's not using my imagination.
I can get immersed pretty easily.

The problem is that i have to imagine so much that
when i quit playing the game it becomes hard for me to see reality.

I just keep imagining things.
Seriously, this game is something special.

I was just eating lunch but i kept telling my wife: "The Thargoids are coming. We need to be prepared and hide in the basement".
I mean i even got a whole range of weapons lined up just in case....

Hey, you gotta give credit where credits due ;)

So... none of >>>this<<< actually happened? Reminds me of the Launch Trailer.... is this going to become a bad habit for FD?

Sure it happened..
It happened in this ultra complex background simulation.
It happened in the imagination of FD.
Now all you gotta do is use yours and you can see it too.

This is not a game for everybody you know.

A whole lot of whining for a game mechanics' first outing. Dear lord. Why don't you give some credible adult feedback to the devs instead of trolling on here. *rolls eyes* :) Although have to say it was funny trolling ;)

First part:
For my contribution in regards to feedback/suggestions:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=115503

Second part:
yep it was intended as funny trolling. To make some jokes... but at the same time offer a good amount of critique.
Because we can give so many feedback about things we like/don't like...
Some of the feedback shouldn't be made at all...
and in the end it feels better to joke about stuff if you have been dissapointed x-amount of times.
It keeps you away from the 'dark side'

I just really liked the idea and 'imagined' David B. being a 'psycho' in 'God mode' controlling us humans in his 'fantasy game' :D

You gotta admit that there is little 'hostile' behaviour / useless discussions between members in this thread.
I say let the joking continue... to many serious threads in this forum and 'Elite Dangerous' is a perfect victim for jokes.

As much as I loved the idea of the first communal thing here (Ben, thx for the inspiration), I feel kinda betrayed at the end. Made it to the Top 5% easily driving a Conda, and I was not in for the money (we all were losing more lucrative time elsewhere). But I've expected... I've expected...

I don't know, just some little thing to commemorate it. A hammer & sickle decal (this was a commie thing after all :D ), a mention somewhere, whatever lasting. This was a first of a kind, and Devs should have gave more thought into the symbolic rewards, more inspiration for the next events.

IMHO, this was very anticlimactic at the end. And I'm done with this communal thing. Off to solitary Elite as it really is.

On a normal day, I may agree with you..
Given the glaringly obvious investment in time, effort, and money players had to throw at this.. in a nutshell...

It's not unreasonable for us to assume the devs aren't the shortsighted morons that players like you seem to assume that us players that expect a bit more from the game are.

FD should have realised that it would be a massive anti-climax. After all they claim to be players designing the game they too suposidly want to play. Frankly, we are long past the point whare something like this should give those involved a noteworthy reward, or trigger further events to spur those who participated onto greater adventures.

Fully agree. Is it really that difficult to add some one time cosmetics?

It was an absolute failure in my mind.. 32k tons and nothing to show for it except a screenshot.

I'm seriously worried about the future of the PVE aspect if this is how they reward us and implement it.

Each tier should have been something special.

Non leaderboard except for top 5? Come on, people like seeing their name!

ROFL! +1

I agree the whole event was kinda meh, but at least there was plenty of pvp/player interaction to be had at yembo. That has to be worth something at least.

Why not give a reward with the missing rare weapons. Get a low heat beam laser for completing the goal, come to the station to have it installed for free. That would get people doing these as there would be some kind of payoff.

This is test of community goal, and newsletters and Michael comments clearly stated that core of station will be towed to the system and then habitat part will be built at place.

I've been around the MMO block to know a meaningless time sink when I see one. This was one of those, and while it may have been good for getting players into the same system, as a goal it was just "why should I care?". I don't mean that as a credit per hour guy, but as a roleplaying guy. Why should I care, in game, about the goal?

That is the million dolar question...

I personaly was interested to see how they implemented the build of a new station.
The 1.1 trailer and preview pics showed some interesting stuff.
Little did we know none of that visual stuff was implemented.

I basicly stopped after reaching Tier1 and nothing seemed to happen...
From a Pvp point of view i had some fun encounters though....
Being attacked by a pirate and getting rescued by a bounty hunter all in 3 minutes was pretty neat.... Oh yes i got my share of quality time.
