Why does it make sense you can be allied to the Empire/Federation/Allience at the same time?

btw Here is a nice story of a fellow cmdr... which name i shall not mention because he is threated equally like the rest of us in the universe...

Quote:

"If you want easy murder

go to Erevate, LHS 3447 or other high interaction places.

Usually i can interdict and kill 10-20 commanders

before having to quit to solo (Flawless game design)

and go and repair (interdiction damage)

than switch back to open

and continue the reaping"

The End

Some good idea's in the OP.
But i can see why we can be allied to all 3 factions.
Imagine if you had to choose just one.
Possibly a 3rd of the galaxy a no go zone.
Possibly a 3rd of the players and npc hostile to you.
Possibly a 3rd of all trades/ships/upgrades unavailable to buy.
Exploration, pirates/bounty/traders all have a 3rd less to interact with. Possibly

You can't go to any part of inhabited space without being allied to it?

Why?

Ideally, allied standings should be renamed to amicable and military ranks can be laid down at will.

Want to be a neutral independent trader and not get involved in war? Lay down your military titles. Want to fight in a war? Keep the title in the navy you want to support.

Just missing the ol' good Sgt. Apone pushing CMDR's to do the community goals: "Stop your grinnin' and drop your linen!"

"Allied" means they trust me. That's good for business. My allegiance, however, is solely to the pilots federation. With the 3 major factions and their subordinates, I do business and keep my word when it's given. They like that and continue to do business with me no matter who else I might be doing business with at other times. Loyalty, on the other hand, that's for the most powerful faction in the galaxy which we are all members of.

And what implication have the ranks with the 3 major factions at this moment? Does this ranking part makes sence at this moment and should we be able to rank up with different factions at the same time, considering these are military ranks?

well, there is a point with each factions ranks where achieving that precludes you gaining any further in the other, so it's not quite a free for all. I've seen that posted by a dev on here but I honestly cant remember where. I'm trying to stay "in character" and have taken no rank progression missions for either so cannot speak from personal experience

The rank system could stand another layer for those who like to really factionalize and pick a side. Freelancer had a fun dynamic of cranking off people depending on what you were doing to help others. You could try to play the middle, or make real friends and enemies. We're at babysteps towards this so far. Some point of no return choices would be welcome I believe.

I'd like to see more of the political bent of the factions play a role as well. It's currently unutilized for much beyond flavour and some basic ties to the economic game. The Space Commies should have some pull just beyond saying they boosted the coverage of space commie factions, for example.

The option to remain neutral/independant/friends with all would always exist. Nobody should be forced to make a choice for 1 major faction. You can look at it as some sort of career choice. Do i want a profession in the fed or imp army. If the awnser is yes , extra visual gameplay elements are added to allow a more immersive roleplaying environment.
