Why have the Black Hole effects been REMOVED? Stop trashing all the good work!

Bumping from page 5 in the hope someone from FD picks it up!

I'm on the road today so not around till much later, got a meeting to discuss enhancements no less :D

Anyway, I'm convinced this is a bug, and not deliberate, I will record and publish the comparisons when I get back later today, you will see that Black Holes now act like Neutron stars.

Apologies for my tone last night, I was quite upset when I found the issue. I would advise anyone going to "SAG* A" to hold on for a fix, as right now you will be very disappointed with the missing effects.

Yeah this needs attention. Shameless bumping to ensue.

Truth to be told, I've never thought that the old effect has been done very good either. This is how it should be:

Btw black hole shown in Interstellar has an accretion disc (still non-existent thing in ED), plus a star lightning it up from the background. Quite specific setup.
Oh yeah, that's something we should see in E: D!

That said, the old effect wasn't too bad IMHO,

at least compared to the current (lack of) effect.

Of course, it could have been more profound and it could/should have included local system

A shot from yesterday illustrating the rather lacklustre visual effect of gravitational lensing.

You can see the black hole has created some distortion on the nebulas light but its certainly nothing to get excited about.

EDIT : In case you are wondering the singularity is located far left half way down the nebula. Its the elliptical blob

I know NASA's pages used to describe the effect such that you should be able to see the back of your own head if you stood close in front of the event horizon. EXTERNAL VIEW OF THE SHIP! :p

Damn, was planning on taking a trip to do some more black hole hunting. I made a quick video of my last trip to Mintaka. Trippy stuff :)

THATS what im talking about.

Exactly.

But when I visited the very same system & black hole recently, the effects were (how do I put this nicely) . . disappointing.

IIRC Mintaka hole is 37 solar masses, and the HIP in my video is only 15 solar masses.

I've got a couple of shots of pre 1.1 black hole (specifically the Maia one) in my latest vid - the old effect wasn't perfect but it was good

Also the BH effect oinly affects the skybox and not the local objects (old AND new lensing)

i think the new effect is an attept to look more realistic, but it is so small i hope thes figure out something cool soon and even more important add feeding effect (like interstellar) and jets.

I think to start, if we could just get back to where we were on the black hole effects first... then go from there? :) - i'm on break ;) Shhhhh

I think DB should leave the artist to build the visual effects as they see fit. I wouldnt mind some artist interpretation of Blackholes, Neutron Stars and so on. Currently they look kinda bad or they dont have a look at all because of all the ''science accuracy'' which makes the whole exp. boring.

i'm sorry for the OT, but in videos i see a good golden galaxy....why the hell in my PC looks like a muddy brown-redish thing? Do you know if it'ws a bug?

Exactly this. I was hoping for a more chaotic experience, like something out of hell.

yea exactly. if you think about all the radiation and pure energy that must be present in those systems, i would think about chaos, planets bursting, forming acc. disks, high speed rotation, jets, omg the possibilities.
