Respect to you stalwart Python owners!

Seriously, respect!

The rest of this post is pretty much useless unless you're bored and curious, just me blowin smoke really. Feel free to blow some back my way if you want but don't take this too seriously. Been too many serious threads lately :)

I bought this thing about 10 game hours ago. Can't do it... Couldn't keep it... too slow... too non-jumpy, too doggone much fuel costs. I must say you guys must be ballin because my 50ly journey is 76,000 in fuel. Sooo, I got me a fuel scoop. Learned to scoop quick. As quick as I could anyway, took several minutes all in all over that trip. Can't do it quick enough to justify the loss of cargo spot.

I could get a super small scoop, but then it takes soo long! Tried it all, couldn't do it.

I figured I got the thing to haul about 50 tons more than my clipper in cargo (without scoop) My trade run is 1,000cr per ton (averaged both ways) So, 76k in fuel is 76 spots of cargo (38 spots each way.) So now I'm +12 in cargo over the Clipper (50-38). But... my goodness is that ship slow. So, my 11minute round trip is now 13minutes. Well, that's like 15percent slower. 15percent of that +12 cargo is about 2. Soo, I end up about +20k a complete run in it, or about 100k an hour more. Can't fly that thing for 100k an hour. Maybe for 700k an hour.

Guess I'm spoiled on the Clipper. She can't jump either, but she's pretty!

P.S. totally possible I failed my maths, just what I came up with.

Hi. I only flew the pre-nerf Python a while back, but to check you aren't doing anything silly, like your shield is two sizes too big, just make sure you watch this around 4 mins: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5lXTyQ3xhY4
Kornelius does great vids.

Something doesn't sound right, I don't think you have the right A scoop, as it didn't take me long I'm sure (i'm guessing I had A3 or A4 back then). I think your trade route needs improving, say ~1K one way, and 500 to 1K back again; I may have misinpreted your figures though.

When you say +12 cargo over the clipper, what is your total cargo space at the moment, 228t? I just watched K's Clipper vid (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5lXTyQ3xhY4 also a great video and hilarious when he's testing the weapons) and he mentioned total cargo space on clipper of 120t with shields, so you seem to be WAY off..

Overall, Python is great for trading. I fear you may have made a big mistake if you sold it.

I still fly it.

Mainly due to the lack of alternatives. Can't really comfortably do the jump to an Anaconda yet and I like the versatility.

Besides I hate the Clipper due to the need for gimbals and sitting on the wrong side.

With a 3A shield you can cram 284T of goods in a Python.

That's more than any other ship until you reach T9 and Anaconda loads.

You don't have to permanently mount a fuel scoop either. You can do 3-4 trade runs, then buy a scoop when you're low on gas. Fill up the tank completely at the next star, sell scoop and replace with cargo bays until low on fuel again.

Edit: Wait is your trade route 50LY each way??? That's going to be tough to justify even in the Anaconda, and especially brutal in the T9. We're talking 5 jumps if you haul a full load of 500T. If this is the case you need a better route.

Just so yoi know that's an awful trade route profit wise. Mine runs 1200 one way 1500 back with only one jump between systems. One port is 300ls from start other is 10. I can make the round trip in about 9 minutes.

smart about the trade fuel scoop off then back on. I will definitely do that next time I get one.

Been lookin for those. Looked for days. Found some like that but they dry up quicker than sponge in the Sahara. Mine is 1300 one way, then 805 to 850 the other (it fluctuates slightly) so I guess the real average would be 1100, but it takes me 2 minutes longer than yours too.

I went from a Type-7 to a Python. Post 1.1. I feel positively spoiled regalrdless of what the Python was before they killed it. And the noise.....Jesus its better than Asp, a guttural hollow growl to it. I love it.

Python lands on medium pads, so you are welcome at outposts. It still turns quick enough to use fixed lasers. If there on one flying swiss army knife, its the Python. But, indeed, even the wreckage of a Clipper looks better than anything else.

Went from a T7 to Python last night, kitted it out for trading and having a blast with it! Like you I'm glad I didn't have one prior to "adjustments".

I've got a new Python and came from the Clipper. I’m giving the Python a few weeks before I decide which ship I prefer.

It's not that the python is that slow, it's not much slower than a Asp (Apart from the woeful boost speed). The Clipper is so damn fast it's taking some getting used to, the python also turns like a brick compared to the Clipper. The python has better vertical and lateral thrusters though.

I think the big tank and long haul endurance of the Python makes up for the shorter jump range somewhat, last night I did a 130 LY trip on a single tank (Fuel scoop is mandatory though). I'm enjoying popping into outposts again. it's MUCH easier finding profitable short haul routes in the Python.

Also the shields and firepower far outclass the Clipper - I swear my current D5 shields on the Python are performing as good as the B7 or A6s I’ve used on the Clipper.

So far I like the Python, but for very differant reasons to the Clipper. I loved the Clipper though, it's a majestic ship and a joy to fly.

It does sound really good. It's just an angry, angry ship.

Oh ya, great sounds. Still like Clippers best though.

Almost kept it for that very reason. Pre "economic-fix" I would have... But those outposts have been bare in the cupboards for me.

This really bugs me also, but I think you'll find the Python is all wrong, stupid left hand drive.

Install A7 Power Distributor, A6 thrusters and your Python is going to constantly maintain 320-340m/s. Not as fast as it was prior 1.1 but still fast.

Ya, it's those base shields! That's what does it. Not into combat as much right now though. But, those shields are super, that vid linked above had a great illustration of that too.

Hmmm. Guess I really was spoiled on that Clipper then :)

Yes, this advice goes for all ships - don't doubt the speed/boost/maneuverabilty of your new ship until you've tried A rated mods as above.

The game should just allow for switching seats. Given the holographic HUD, it shouldn't be a big deal.

I've actually recalibrated my rift to the far right to take a seat on the left hand seat in the clipper. Sure - didn't have a HUD or Radar, but it was still better.

As was also very suprised of how much this really bugged me, I too want to be able to sit in the other pilots chair.

Maybe when we can walk arround our ships we sit on the correct RIGHT hand side of the cockpit. :D
