How many credits to switch trading from type 7 to python?

I have 60.7mil "current assets". I've been trading in a type 7. I know I'll take a bit of a hit selling the ship (after selling its modules individually.)

So, I can afford a stock python for 57m credits. But, a python fully loaded for trading is 88.4m credits.

At what point should I switch over? I don't know about where the breakeven point will be for credits earned per hour, because the Python will be slower, have less jump, etc.

I'd at least have to get maxed cargo hold to possibly come out even or ahead.

Python can go anywhere including those outlying systems, whereas the type 7 cant. Its not a ship of choice for explorers, but some have managed to do it. I see it as a nice trading ship that one can use to upgrade and run the fringe systems trade routes, interdictions npc are more frequent so u can fight those off. And generaly its a bit more of a flexible platform

I'd shoot for 90million. You'll want the cargo racks and at least a decent jump drive. Or you'll go like 4ly with cargo and stock drive

I would aim for around ~70 million for a bare bones working ship.

56M for the ship itself
5M for the 5A FSD
3M for misc upgrades (D grade thrusters, power plant, life support, sensors, power dist, cargo bays, etc)
3.5M for insurance
3M for cargo

I switched at 62M, but I sweated the first couple of hours while trading to buy the extra upgrades and running without any insurance cash. But I couldn't wait

Oh, and I only have a 5B FSD at the moment.

I changed at 80MCr, but 90 would give a safety zone.
Wish I still had the Python instead of my gutless T-niner, but I can't take the 10% hit twice.

I have just done it with around 67mil CR, that was enough to set me up with the best FSD, buy all the racks and have insurance plus my 1.8mil CR cargo route.

I switched at around 60-62 million and ended up unable to afford a decent FSD. Fortunately there were lots of stations in the system where I was stranded so I was able to trade low priced goods amongst them to earn enough cash to buy the 5A FSD, but it took longer than if I had just stayed with the T7 and earned a few million more.

You'll make more money with a Python as it can land anywhere. I don't recall exactly at what point I swapped but did run a few round trips without shields before pimping it out a bit. When I sold it it was worth about 90mil. I now fly a 'conda and miss what the Python was, pre castra**on.

As other posters have said, 90mil is a good amount to have when buying a Python. I first got one when I had only 70mil, and I really didn't like it. I did a bit of grinding in a Clipper, then bought the Python again when I got to about 97mil. This let me get an A FSD and upgrade everything to B/C/D class, A5 shield, and A4 fuel scoop. I got 244 cargo, and could jump around 12ly laden. This is with 3 size 3 pulse lasers, 2 multicannons, heat sink, point defense, kill warrant, and chaff. After only a few days trading here and there, everything is A rated... except for a C7 power plant which gives me way more power than I need. With 90+mil you give yourself a nice buffer for outfitting, insurance, and money to buy commodities.
