Elite: Dangerous has only 1 flaw

Lets start off by saying I picked up the game right after Christmas because my friend told me it was something like star citizen (Which I no longer give a care about). Anyways I got the game and I loved it because I like the sense that you are always working towards something, whether it is building reputation with a faction or trading to work for a new ship. So here is my problem, I said trading towards a new ship for a reason, because it is the only way to get the more expensive ships. When I bought the game I was expecting more of a space simulator than a trading simulator.

Anyways I would just really love to see bounty hunting, exploring and mining get major buffs as trading has gotten very tedious and boring for me.

I would also like to say I haven't been able to convince any of my friends to play the game with me as they all think its boring.
Edit - I dont want you guys to think I hate Elite, I really dont I love it. Although I wish I would have been notfied that it is a trading simulator not a space simulator

I agree they need a buff. The only way to get the big ship is to trade and i do not like doing that. So will stick to my viper and bounty hunt which is what i enjoy in this game. Guess no big ships for me. :(

Trading is not the ONLY way to get a bigger ship, it is the fastest way. Also, if you fly smart with your Viper or Asp you can make plenty of money. Trading will make more but it is surely boring. So, you get fun and less credits or bored and more credits. Not all payouts involve in game credits. Pick your poison.

This game is pretty old school so you seem to get more out of it by taking your time. Rare's routes could be a good option or run a trading square or loop using an Asp or similar, this allows you to take missions and hunt bounties along the way.

Something that's worked for me is backing the Feds, this means identifying ships factions before I engage them and trying to only trade to Fed influenced stations etc.

One flaw ?

It's the only lacking aspect that bothers me to any great deal. Lack of co-op support was my main one. Third is more a matter of being patient for more content. Other than that, I think the game is very fun.

Op, I've put together a pretty big post about this that I'll probably put up tomorrow when I'm home. Combat is one of the three pillars of the game and needs a lot of work to allow it to be a realistic career path for players who want to try out lots of ships.

Exploration also needs to be a lot better paid but at least that can be best done in one ship that doesn't cost too much.

Also going into USS's seeking for pirates (missions) is not that much thrill... Pretty predictable after 2/3 times you do it. Always the same mechanics. Always.

I agree with OP. We need more money for bounties. Us bounty hunters can't even use most missile weapons, because the cost of operating them will exceed any bounty we obtain. As far as earning money for bigger ships is concerned I came to realize the end game for a bounty hunter is a fully stocked Viper for three reasons:

1)Viper is the highest level combat specific ship
2)All higher end multi purpose ships will not be as fun to play in combat due to lower speed
3)All higher end multi purpose ships operating costs will destroy margins for bounty hunting

Coming to this realization has allowed me to get comfortable with the idea that this will be a game I load up once a week at best. Maybe in a few months I will have a Viper with all of the bells and whistles. Frontiers priorities can be seen in the fact that combat specific ships are limited to 2/15 of the current ships. I guess they rightly assumed that the fighter focused players will only put 50 or less hours into this game anyway.

How about equipment drops from ships you destroy..

I hope exploration gets some major attention. It's what interests me most in space games but in this game it's just a matter of pointing your nose at something and listening to the annoying "bong". Please, please flesh out exploration. Make exploring more interesting. Have things worthwhile exploring for. Scanning planets which all pretty much look the same in systems that all pretty much look the same makes you ask why this game needed this HUGE sandbox with nothing in it. It should be dangerous out there and there should be wonders to discover. It's just a never ending screen saver right now. So many games have done a better job of this. For Pete's sake take some cues from some of these other games.

1)Viper is the highest level combat specific ship - I will grant you this one
2)All higher end multi purpose ships will not be as fun to play in combat due to lower speed - hell no! Clippers and Pythons are still great fun to fight in...
3)All higher end multi purpose ships operating costs will destroy margins for bounty hunting - nope, also not true

You may want to avoid making unwarranted assumptions :)

I think the reason so many people are upset with ED is they think it should be easier to aquire enough by the end of the day to buy the biggest badest ship in the game by supper time or something.
If they'd go out and just do stuf as it comes along, they might just have a good time. When I'm in my ship, I am ready to adapt and do anything that comes along. The only thing I look for is to be a little better off than I was yesterday. Gain a litte rep, earn some creds or what ever. I don't set huge goals or stress out because I've been iin the game sice it released and am only in a maxed out Cobra.

Currentlly I'm doing a rare trade route but I don't do it "effientlly", I wander off to do hunting missions or fight interdicions or maybe scan a system I found. I never do just one thing. at a time. I don't make as much cash as Cmdr UbarX but I'm having fun and that's what I play for.

is it a crime that I aspire to fly it?

Absolutely not.

If you want to fly the biggest ship, then you should find a way to raise your income. Its just that (at least for me) that road will be a boring grind to trade your way there. You are stating you didnt expect a trading simulator, but when you race for the biggest ship you will be in one.

We have seen many frustrating cmdrs on this board complaining that the grind is to long and that profits for all areas should be increased. This ended in people quitting and flaming the game for being bored. If i did nothing else than trading for days, then yes, i'd be bored to. There is just more to do, is all im saying.

Maybe im going slightly ot here, but; i used to play games, trying to reach the end by racing (or atleast playing real fast), skipping content that didnt help me improve the speed i would reach to the goal: end game. By the time i was there i lost interest quite fast, and actually missed the time spend getting there. Nowadays i play on a pace which i like, and im doing stuff i like.

So in short: Im not feeling bored by content given to me, but might get bored the way i 'consume' it. Trading from a sidewinder to an anaconda would get me bored under a week.
