T9 Owners: A little help please?

Hello fellow Commanders and congrats on your beastly T9!

So I'm going to be in position to purchase one in a couple days - but I've recently seen some posts on the forums that make me apprehensive.

You see, I want one so I can trade massive quantities of stuff! Sadly, some posts hint at the idea that the more stuff you have in your cargo, the lower the price the market will offer you for it. In other words, goods that might be purchased by the port at 14000 credits normally would instead be purchased at 12000 credits - or something to that effect.

Question: Have you encountered the ports offering you lower than normal price due to you having a lot of said good? If so, how much lower?

Thanks for the help!

Even with the bulk "tax", would that stop you? There's no way to avoid it and you still get huge profits with a T9.

So if it's nothing you can do about it and you still win with credits, why worry about it?

1% I can easily deal with - Thanks!

Edited: Removed most of the this post that wasn't of any help to anyone.

Thank's for the lack of help or anything constructive at all. Hope you got whatever that was out of your system :)

Touchy aren't we?

Sure, grind your way to an explorer then. A T9 will get you there quicker to an explorer than any other method, tax and all.

If you couldn't get that from the last message I posted, sorry, I'll put it much simpler for you to comprehend next time.

So split your cargo, carry cells + enhancers and avoid the high taxes. Seems like a simple enough work around to me.

I've been doing this (loading 2 types of cargo to ensure I don't drive the price of 1 down) in my T6 sometimes just because I assumed it would be best for keeping the price up, but it seems that I don't have enough cargo space (96) to influence the market.

Bulk tax for Performance Enhancer is about 7 cr/t if it is in high demand. I also remember that for Gold & Palladium in VERY high demand, there is sometimes no or just 1cr/t bulk tax. For medium demand Imperial Slaves is about 25 cr/t or so (not sure, I am away from my usual trading route so I can not check for the exact numbers at the moment). Both numbers are on 452t Anaconda, should be the same in a T-9.

It's small enough that it should not affect your overall profitability as you should not be trading on stuff that's only borderline profitable to start with.

What is your current ship? BEFORE buying the T-9, build it to your desired spec. at www.edshipyard.com and look at it's jump range, then compare it with your route. If your route is not short enough (and have no in-between systems), it can turn a 2 jump route into a 5 jump route (as I found out the hard way).

There's also the issue of finding the top FSD, it's rather rare and it can happen that there's none within 50 LY from you (which I found the hard way too). Visiting every high pop wealty high tech/industrial system with hopes that it carry your FSD sucks as you can not scout using other ships as the only other ship using that FSD class is the Anaconda, you got to pilot this space whale around looking for that FSD... Not a pleasant experience.

In the end I find T-9 not worth the pain (and it's super slow pitch rate during SC), and "downgrade" to a trading Python. I trade myself up to Anaconda using it instead.

Thanks Eagle Eye, that's good info. Think that shipyard is off on prices and the python's cargo rack availability but it's still something I recommend too.

I use an anaconda with 436 cargo, my friend until recently had a t9 with 500 cargo, we both ran the same trade route along with another friend in a t7 212 cargo and we were all getting withing a few credits the same per tonne profit, and that was around 2600 per tonne on a round trip, this trade route is still 3 weeks later giving the same return it goes down a few credits per run each time over the 5-6 hours we run it and then restocks and prices reset then next day.

personally I hated the t9 it was horrid to fly, I went back to a python and stuck out the 260 ish cargo as I could turn around the same route twice in almost the same time frame, unil I could get the anaconda, but that's just my personal preference.

Enty

Mmm? I think the Python compartments sizes & amount are accurate. Also away from my Python so can not check in game =b

Maybe beta-backers get a discount on ships and modules and that's why the prices are so low. Like the Anaconda says it's only 141,889,932? sidey is 12,887? etc. Modules price looks low too, but I'm not sure. But it does look like the cargo racks are right for the Python.

Anaconda is 146.969.451 (look at the total price further down). The price you quote (shown on top) is an imaginary HULL only price, stripped off FSD, Sensor, Thrusters etc. that can not be stripped in-game.

I've been trading in a T9 for a while. I did not see any bulk tax on Palladium, the price of that remained the same as well. Performance enhancers on the return trip kept falling in profit though. On my other return leg Mineral extractors remained the same too. I didn't notice any bulk tax, if it was there, it was very small.
The T9 was a pain to handle though. It hardly stays at 200 m/s while chain boosting, you have to slow down to 60 m/s to turn into the mail slot when you're coming from the side, and rolling over inside the station takes forever. Definitely get some A rated shields on it as there is no quickly avoiding other ships. I bumped a T7 out of the way by accident, didn't even slow me down. The shields also makes stopping a lot easier, grind on the landing pad to come to a halt. Be careful when jumping into the next system, either enter with throttle zero or be ready to immediately apply max pitch and yaw to avoid the star. I had 180k damage for getting too close once. The thing turns so slow that you're likely to miss a 20ls station from the star, not being able to get the ship turned at it before building up too much speed.
It got a bit better with A rated thrusters, but when you can afford them (51 million + 5 million power plant) you're almost at the Anaconda anyway. I just traded it in, gone from 500t to 448t, yet my 3 jump leg turned into a single jump, 240 while boosting with D6 thrusters, 21.28ly jump range fully loaded, and much faster docking.

Ahhh, okay. My mistake, thanks for the clarification.

Appreciate the replies and experiences all.

I have seen reductions in commodity price more than 500Cr per ton lower when arriving with 500 tons compared to with having only 100 tons, even with high demand.
Nothing to be done though, it's just poor economic modelling.

It is the weirdest thing I've ever seen in Elite. The fact there is no official explanation (with hard numbers) as to how it works is really shoddy.
It seems that the Type 7/Clipper is the end game now if you're a trader.
What will happen if they introduce the bigger Panther Clipper? Will traders have to pay stations to take their good?
Looks like they want to force everybody down the pirate/combat route or just want to punish traders because people who don't trade are moaning that they have more money than them.
I bought the game basically because I assumed it would be a space trading game like the one I remember playing on my BBC Model B all those years ago.
I have enough money now to trade in my Type 7 for a Type 9 and beginning if it is actually worth it.
I also have an Asp and Viper to enjoy other facets of the game but it is trading that I enjoy most and seems FD don't want me to do that properly with these weird taxes (Lakon Effect).
