Stranded in Space? Call the intergalactic refueling service

Hi Guys,

I have been thinking about this for a little time now and couldn't find anything about it on the forum.

Here is the Scenario as it happened to me early in the Game:

"Oh hey, lets go to Betelgeuse."
A couple of jumps later...
"What do you mean I cant get Hydrogen from a T-Tauri?"

The only solutions at this point are the following:

a) wait until Frontier puts a Space-Station in the System you are stranded in
b) self-destruct and buy a new ship

How about c), a third way to involve the community a little more:

You can send out a distress signal that reaches out to the nearest Station (I am not sure yet if NPC can respond to it as I am unaware about the capability of the NPC's yet)
But nearby CMDR's get a litte distress call in the left-hand panel, pointing out your location and a decent reward that will be offered by the stranded victim.

The next steps are fairly simply, the helping CMDR jumps into the known System, gets a Distress Signal Source in the Navigation Screen and is able to drop close to the stranded Ship.

After he got close to it, lets say 50m, he can release Fuel/Hydrogen from his tank creating a cloud around his ship which the stranded one can scoop up as I imagine that the scoops work with strong magnetic fields.

What do you think?

Edit: Rewards will be measured by the Units of Fuel you did provide.

In a universe where life is so cheap that the penalty for loitering is death, I just don't think people care about eachother that much that anyone would do more than shrug and say "another one bites the dust."

I don't know ... if the mechanic was there to do it, people might.
Depends on, what's a tankful worth to you, Cmdr?

At least people would get together that way :D

Btw. I have read an article long ago about towing trucks literally battling over clients in Johannesburg ;)

True enough. :p

Aye, turf wars basically. Not that there's a shortage of car accidents (a large % of the population don't have a drivers license, or paid off the driving instructor during the test), but it's not a well paying business and it works on commission; the more cars you tow the more money you make; this led to them driving like maniacs (jumping red lights, driving on the side-walks) in order to get to the accidents, then they'd argue over who got there first and therefore who should tow (completely ignoring the fact that it was the person who was in the accidents' decision to make), this would sometimes lead to physical confrontations (if police came, they would either laugh and ignore it, or try to arrest them which would only make the situation worse).
Over time, this competition escalated to sabotage and a form of corporate espionage, alongside deliberate destruction of the competitions property, including the breaking and entering of premises, and death threats to the truck drivers. There were also rumours of the companies deliberately attempting to cause accidents in an attempt to make more money.

This was a while ago, haven't heard anything since then about it.

It's pretty much the same thing with the taxi's. Turf wars. Fighting, reckless driving. With the taxi's though, it escalates to gun violence and regular road user intimidation (my mother and others were threatened by a taxi driver who was wielding a monkey-wrench as he pushed his way through traffic).

Despite this though, this country is awesome. :p

I think the refuel + repair distress beacon is a good idea. With chance of getting the help you wanted depending on where you are (populated system, low population / anarchy, out exploring).

I dont think you have read the first post at all...
Yes I did read it. But did you know they took out distress call after beta. Not sure why It could be that players abused it or they found a problem with it.

But Anton_ also had a good idea. Plan Better.

Let also point out. Some players are 30,000 LY away from the nearest station. So how long does it take to send a message?
