Please use the SEARCH function before posting

I'm as guilty as any other, and in some examples it's a case of being ninja'd by another CMDR by minutes but there's an increasing amount of, well, noise, that are duplicated posts because we don't want to stick a couple of terms in the search bar and check there's not been a thread discussed ad nauseum by others.

Last two days have been pretty bad for it. If you're new to the forum you could save so much time for yourself doing research before posting, chances are it has been touched upon before.

So, simple plea: Please use the Search before posting and add to an existing thread instead if it is still relevant to do so. But don't post the same topic for the sake of it. I'm not a Mod, but I don't envy their task having to merge dupe threads.

And yes, I did use the Search function when posting this ;)

Seconded - however in defense of the duplicate posters, I have to say the forums search function is really poor - searching the forums using google usually yields far better results for me.

I've used the search facility when I wanted to look again, or respond, to a thread I'd previously read, but not had much success. Using Google, on the other hand, has always found it for me. Go figure...

you know, if you used the search function i'm sure you'd find a similar thread to this already out there :p

really though it's something all forums get, and no amount of public awareness will really stop it. some people like to do their own research, others prefer to talk to people instead.

Yeah, I don't know what platform it's built on but you can't search using various criteria like other forums sadly. Can't win em all but just lately it's starting to get messy. As new players come to the game old questions are being resurrected. I would be good if there was a sticky that pointed to online guides/ wikis in one place that could quel some of the more basic Q&A scenarios then use the forum to research more in-depth issues.

But yeah, happens in every forum, even outside of gaming tbh

This. And unlike most I'm (vaguely) aware of threads going back 6 years .... try searching for stuff *that* old :p

The times I've done list posts like this have been because I saw need and decided to do it rather than ask why it isn't there.

To be fair, I don't think it would help much. People ignore stickies, they don't use search functions. I've accumulated an embarassing amount of forum posts during the last 2 decades, moderated myself and it's always the same.

Sadly, asking people to read FAQs, stickies or use a search function is about as effective as visiting an IS camp and shouting "act like reasonable people!".

..... oh my, I didn't even know there was a search feature 'till I saw the title of this thread... anyone just finding this thread for the 1st time should give it a bump, see if we can end the ignorance.

I think there's far too many wannabe forum cops here. Paying customers don't appreciate being reprimanded by other forum users of no greater status, so wind your necks in and move along.

I just like to be quoted.

but I try to do a quick search or look at the first few pages, things that are very current can end up on page 3 in 15 mins. This is good, as it's an active board.

As others have said google is the best way of finding what you want.
Personally I'd rather search than open a thread - by the time you have an answer you could have found it yourself and been back in game for several hours!

And for the 'I have an idea that will fix the game' threads - these people are usually so self important that simply putting their opinion in someone elses thread just will not do; after all THEIR idea will FIX the game, all other opinions are ascended...
:p

DO NE1 NO A GUD SETUP 4 COBRA MK3?????!?!?!?!??!?!???

Sorry, couldn't resist. Yes, the search is pants. However, people are dillholes and make endless dupes threads, sometimes when there are threads about the exact same topic in the top five in the same forum. No amount of automation could help here, as the appropriate threads are literally staring them in the face- a bit silly :D

Appreciate it as I've said it a bunch of times already. However, this is a waste of time. I even know when I've said it that it's a waste. The people that don't use search know it's there, they know they can use it, but they don't care. It's easier to just make their own thread, in their eyes. It's been this way since forums have existed. We're all special snowflakes that need our own soapboxes. People feel entitled to ask questions in their own threads. What you get in a thread like this is everyone just preaching to each others choir. All it serves is to be another thread where people vent their frustration on the issue and it doesn't solve the actual problem. All you can really do is just let the moderators try to catch it and take care of it or report it and move on.
