NPC names and the characters they will be attached to...

Hi Just a quick question, but what types of NPCs/Professions might backers names be attached? I hadn't considered it before but I'd rather not see the name I used attached to certain professions... :S

Like if your NPC name was Throttle - and in the game you were a dog - " Throttle the dog " :)

Too bad. I always pictured my NPC running a shipyard in a high-profile system somewhere near the core worlds, but he might end up as a low level janitor in a waste reclainmation facility of some back-water, pirate infested anarchy planet. Might be better to never know.

Not currently, but we'll probably sort them into male/female buckets.

Michael

Is there any way for us to influence this process? The name I chose is a non-English name (my wife's) and someone without the cultural background might put the name into the wrong bucket, so to speak.

Thanks for responding, by the way. Wasn't really expecting it, heh :D

indeedy! but seriously - if I used my wifes name then I'm not sure she'd be happy being the local harlot :p

  I'm kinda concerned about that as well.....as I used my father's name and would like to show him once he appears in game.

Is there control over gender though?

Well that sounds promising at least.

Well since I used my full real name, I've got no objections how he turns out, though it might be nice to find him. If however, he ends up in the 'wrong ' bucket then can I request that you make 'her' an attractive redhead:p

I wouldn't worry about it to much as there are roughly 30,000 NPC name, the chances of your meeting you NPC will be pretty low I would think.

Just found this thread by doing the right thing and not creating a new thread without searching the forums ... I have a question about this topic, will we have any idea of where to find our personally named NPC's ?

It's a humungous galaxy and it's kind of pointless naming an NPC(s) if you never meet them in game ... You could have named your NPC "Bob Bobbington" never meet them and anyone else seeing that name wouldn't know it was player created.

Just wondering.....

very good point .

will named npc's at least have a different colour or flashing name so everyone recognises they are special ?

I shall have one side mission in Elite Dangerous.
This mission is a personal mission and my goal is to hunt down and murder the NPC named Jean-Marc Cipullo.

It might cause some weird paradox and my Elite Dangerous account will simply vanish into thin air.

This is a good question that I'd not considered.

I assumed that NPC names would be allocated on a random basis (e.g. a ship crew members) and that they'd simply reappear somewhere if/when the character was killed. But will they re-appear if killed or will they simply disappear.

But it would be cool if you could find and visit your NPC character - even better if they kept in touch periodically with a basic status update.

The idea of flagging up player named NPC's is also a good one.

I was thinking, and bear with me it's probably a crazy idea and way too much trouble, but wouldn't it be cool if when you started you got an in-game email or message from your named NPC just saying hi and telling you where they were and what they were doing.
