Personally, I think there aren't many words that have been created for E: D, and I don't have a problem with it. Communities like this need their own language - you can say it's clique or exclusive if you want to, but it's no big secret what it means, where it comes from, and why it's used.

If you don't like it - don't use it. If a word doesn't get used, it falls of the radar and becomes archaic. That's another way language evolves - it goes both ways.

What does "twerking" mean anyway fr'instance? :S

No youre all wrong.. twerking is when you realize you are about to slam into an asteroid during a dogfight and franticly jerk the joystick in all directions while yelling "no.. no. no. NOOOOO!"

People often liken the Elite universe to Alien, or Bladerunner... and the gritty, tough life vernacular we, the great community, come up with is "jontying"?

As you say though, use it or not... in game and I will ignore you (not that you care much, if at all) because it bugs me. On the forum I will just keep whining like a little girl, because I want to hear what you have to say... but it still bugs me!

While I play Elite: Dangerous I will be wearing jodhpurs and a hat at a jaunty angle, jingoistically forming a Junta, employing a janitor, and juggling jangling jingle bells while jontying up to elite status in a non-jousty, joystick-controlled manner.

jabokai will not enjoy this and will judge me a jackanapes and jettison me from his join list.

I see no jeopardy in his jibes, however, and will journey on, jubilantly trying to get this joyful jewel of a word out of his juvenile jail and into the journals of jocosity.

Heh! I think it's a combination of a perceived dearth of information lately - or it's slightly tardy arrival - and pre-match nerves.

Alpha being so tantalisingly close and all that yet still a month away with no actual date!

Agree, there seems to be a few who were posting regularly and now have backed away slightly, or even disappeared altogether, however been some great new members to which have introduced some fun and interesting Threads/posts.

Be interesting to see how many will regularly contribute to the Forums once ED is up and running(thinking Game Vs forum time consideration)

Hello all, OP here, I created this thread to wish Elite Dangerous a Happy 1st Birthday and comment on how (for me at least) it does not seem like a year has gone by since I excitedly mouthed the words "My god this is happening!" at my screen upon seeing Elite Dangerous's Kickstarter page.

We used to have some much fun on the comments page, where where a really tight bunch, that was a year ago...

...cut to today where we have in this thread just one page of Happy Birthdays! and 5 pages of complaining about a sodding word!

For shame ED Community for shame!

Firstly, please excuse me while I indulge myself with a slight woohoo on my 500th post.

Ahem, wooohoo!

I'm not as regular as some but even I've found myself pretty much knowing what to expect on every topic having seen them argued from all sides for the last eleven months - I can pretty much state any point of view on any topic from memory!

I expect my forum habit will continue pretty much as is - to me it seems an obvious thing to use the forum of a game you're going to play both for the social aspect and because there is so much useful info here - I'm always quite surprised when I see people say they don't bother with the forums - unless of course they really are just too pushed for time.

I intend to have the game on my new gaming PC and the forums on the laptop next to it.

I think it's also a given the forums will explode in general from alpha onwards...

Brodie - don't get too down - things go off topic - it happens - but in spite of that I bet everyone in this thread is just as chuffed as you are that we are nearly at Alphaaaaa!
