Option turn off cockpit movement/shaking

Could we have this option, please? A slider from 0-100 % or something...

I usually have to have a break after 30-40 minutes of playing, because I get dizzy.

I really would like to do longer sessions.

I've been asking for that since Alpha 1.0. The official answer is that they won't do it - it's a cinematic choice.

I've managed to mitigate it in the following ways however:

1) TrackIR (or I guess the EDTracker) - because you can look around and move your eyepoint yourself, the effect is reduced largely.

2) The Rift/DK2 - it doesn't happen in the Rift.

3) Change your field of view. On my tripleheaded 16:9 setup (5040x1080), it means the hud is almost half off the screen during deceleration or manoeuvring. Changing the FOV slider to max didn't help either. I found that changing the FOV in the Settings.xml (I added 5 to it), resulted in the hud being "back" further (by virtue of the larger view), so that it now doesn't move off screen, and that it's less of a problem. I no longer want to put my fist through the monitor for example :)

Try the FOV adjustment and see if that helps :)

While I do personally enjoy it, my wife can't really watch me play for very long because the movement gives her motion sickness. So yeah... it is a thing that happens. =/ There should be an off switch.

So we have to pester them until they do. :D

Thanks! Already tried, didn't really help. Beyond that, the FOV was way to high.

Hmm I wonder how to fool the game client into believing my eyefinity setup is a DK2 display, the head translation "feature" is worth disabling by any means.

Any programmer out there, who could do this, even with single monitor setup? I would pay for.

The entire effect is frikin pointless and ruins the gameplay. Having crucial parts of my HUD go off screen because I turned is idiotic. "Cinematic" or not, it should bloody well be optional.

Huh... What ? He gets motion sickness and I'm sure he's not the only one.
Putting an option for them would be greatly appreciated, anything else, especially an answer like "it's a cinematic choice" is very Ubisofty and trust me, that's not a compliment.

EDIT: it's like maxing out the graphics for everyone and saying to low end pc users "It's how the game should be played deal with it and buy another computer"

Please mention a game where changes were made to aid people who get motion sickness.

It should be asked what games do NOT make things optional to stop motion sickness.

Almost all PC games have motion blur, depth of field and head bobbing options that can be disabled. All of these are post processing effects so are entirely optional.

Oh I didn't know those options were there for that purpose.

Most of the games I played do not let you mess with head bobbing unless you "mod it off" tho.

MechWarrior Online did, they added (then removed) massive screen shake when firing jump jets.

OP, i agree with you, although it doesn't quite make me nauseous it gets close at times. If it's not present in the Rift, then us lowly peasants should have the option to disable it as well.

I remember that in some FPS (probably some time ago as I have not been playing them much recently) there was always an option to turn on/off "head bobbing" or "walk" or something along this line. I never really cared, nor I care here, but I am amused that Devs seem to be so adamant about this feature. I mean, is it in any way crucial to the game? Not for me for sure, I could care less if it was an option, or removed altogether.

I really hope FD read this thread and give us an option. I don't have a problem with the effect of being pushed back in your seat or left / right etc. however the MASSIVE vibration is ridiculous - is my ship about to shake its self apart or something? Also, it makes my eyes tire very quickly, which can lead to headaches and nausea in extreme circumstances - needless to say I take frequent breaks to avoid this.

Also, does anyone else think this effect makes it look like FPS is tanking? I mean, I see a steady (vSync'd) 60fps yet this effect makes it look MUCH lower due to the screen judder.

So, an option to turn the vibration effect off would be fantastic. The general movement effect responding to directional thrust is ok, though an option to tone it down would be useful to many I imagine.

You know, my humble ground-limted car manages to accelerate smoothly now in the 21st century - odd that FD envisage ships not being able to do the same more than a thousand years from now :)

Scoob.

Could anyone of the Rift users post the Rift config file please, especially the part of the option to disable cokpit movement?

Thank you! Personally I'm not worried about the bouncing around but it is an Accessibility issue, and FD should be very prepared to put an option for this reason alone if they don't want annoying legal paperwork from the EU/UK.

However just zooming out of the cockpit a bit so I'm not frequently missing information is a real boon and adding 5 to the FOV fixed it for me nicely.

For anybody wondering just where the appropriate settings.xml file found, it's here: "%LocalAppData%\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics" (You can copy-and-paste the location, including the quotes into Windows Explorer (Win+E) or the Run box (Win+R) and it'll take you straight there).

yes It's making tha game unplayable for me too.

come on FD show some design skill .
and gives us an option to turn that shaking off.
