There's a new Amiga coming out - 128bit

There is a new Amiga coming out, exactly one year from today! It's going to be the first (I think) 128bit computer.

It's called the Amiga 1280 and the design harks back to the Amiga 1200 days, only this one comes with a Solid State Drive and Blu-Ray as standard.

It's bundled with Workbench and Deluxe Paint 2012

I might consider it if they also included System Shock 3, Homeworld 3 & Alien Breed 3D 3 along with the Deluxe Super Duper Edition of Elite IV. But maybe that's hoping for to much! :D:D:D

PS What happened to the keypad? :S

Yep it's a 600 on steroids

And the keypad on a Amiga is entirely justified, just cant think of a reason why at the mo ;)

That might be fake but this isn't. Gentlemen, have a look at the A600+ :D
This is a famous project on Amibay and shows an attempt to fit an A1200 into a A600 case. One word, awesome!

PS It all works!

This thread may have been started as an April fools joke, and yes it was good (and had me fooled for a bit), but as an old English saying goes "many a true word spoken in jest".

There really IS a new Commodore coming. I prank you not.

Relaunch

Commodore USA, LLC, a company licensing the Commodore trademark, plans to launch a C64 branded PC in May 2011. It will look identical to the original C64 computer, but will contain a modern Intel processor. It is planned to run Commodore OS, a Linux derivative, as well as have the ability to run Microsoft Windows and emulate the original C64 software. The first computers are set to reach their customers by mid 2011.

and that is not the only source:

http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2011/04/08/commodore-64-welcome-back-old-friend/?mod=WSJBlog
(ok, these two are articles about the same thing, but they don't get written for nothing, at least, I hope not!)

and if you'd like further proof, I noticed all this because Commodore 64 was one of the top 5 trending topics on Yahoo.co.uk (I know, "so what?")

Ok so it may not be an Amiga 1200 a few generations later, but Commodore are trying to re-launch (are you watching Frontier?) and I say .... SUPPORT THEM.

Yes, I saw this some time ago http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1617

But is this any different to just using an emulator on a standard PC setup? Sure it has a nice looking case but there is nothing "Commodore" about its internals. No 68000 based CPU, no custom chips, no dedicated OS environment. Some in the Amiga community don't look very favourably on these machines, seeing them as nothing more than re-cased PCs.

Personally, I think they look really good and for those wanting to be a bit different, they could be an option. I just think though it's important to remember that at best, these are nice looking PCs, not C64s or Amigas in the true sense.

There are rumours though, that a new N68070 chip being worked on by Natami for their Amiga compatible system. Here is their website http://www.natami.net/
