Astronomy / Space Gravity - Awesome visuals

The images are sumptuous and the earth so wonderful. But it is also terrifying and reminds us that space is not a simple walk. Thank you for this great video

It did really well at the cinema apparently.

Must say, the trailers I saw did look impressive on the eyeball.

That extended on oddball linked was quite gripping.

I went to see it when I was in Minnesota, just as Sandra Bullock enters the Chinese station, all the electrics in the theatre went out and the film stopped.

"Well that was a crap ending!"

Today, I saw the movie and it was little disappointing to be honest.
Yes, the visuals are great but the story is, well, poor. In fact there isn't one apart from Sandra Bullock trying to get back to Earth, and that's it.

And? Would have been better if aliens were after her, and she was the president of the US on a one-off mission, and she was pregnant, and her mom was dying of cancer... etc?

I didn't go to see it because I expected there to be not much of a plot and I thought the stunning visuals would be spoilt by that.

I enjoy watching the "Earthlight" DVD for the visuals

I agree. There wasnt much surprises. Ok, she acted well in some parts, but it was a one-woman show. No real story whatsoever, and also quite unrealistic: When a movie doesnt want to bring sci-fi elements into play, then please keep it realistic. Way too much staged accidents. Why would the parachute rip in vacuum? (the ISS wasnt in the atmosphere at that time) Who would be floating past a burning console, ignore it and make a nap while danger is at hand and a colleague is outside doing his last breaths? Why this big explosion in the ISS? I am totally dissapointed from this movie because i expected alot more from the critics i read before.

I have not yet seen the movie, but I think this is the kind of movie to watch for the beautiful scenery. I think there must not be any particular intellectual depth, except in the aspect of the struggle for survival, the claustrophobia, the confinement, the powerlessness, the fear. But I shall go see it for the graphics

Yep, that's pretty much it. Really good film as long as you take it at that level and not look to criticise the tiniest levels of realistic detail... it's a disaster/survival film, not a documentary.

Oh, and much as I generally dislike 3D, this is one film that really should be seen in 3D - it's like a third actor in the story.

I'm tempted to go watch it tonight but the mixed reviews have worried me a tad. However it does sound like something to see on the big screen
