I played elite on my 70 inch monitor for the 1st time since July

wow........ i know it is going to sound like i am trying to be funny but the experience I can only describe as being FLAT!

I was in my asp... gone was the feeling of being in a totally different ship offering a different experience to my previous ships. i just seemed like the same ship with a mildly different graphic on the screen. all the scale was just gone.

suffice to say now voice attack is configured, i shall not be going back to my screen any time soon.... VR all the way even if it is low res and with SDE!.

how people can say VR is not worth it and a high res monitor is better i will never know.

to each their own however

I noticed the same, I wanted to snack while doing trade runs and didn't want to wear my OR and instead used IR motion tracking with my homemade trackIR type setup and .... it just felt flat, the world lacked the feeling that it has while in VR. There is NO way I would want to do combat without the rift on. Even with the SDE and lower res the game def benefits from the use of VR.

I really hope VR does not go away like it did years ago :p

Now I just wish I could walk around my ship and possibly do some customization such as hang fuzzy dice in my imperial clipper :>

I've never heard anybody say that. The fully immersive 3d experience of the rift is so spectacular, even with the limited rez and SDE... I don't think I could ever go back. Thank god it's going to be going mainstream here in the next year or two... because I am addicted. I can't wait for further development. Gaming has been perminently changed.

Can I have your screen, then?

lol sadly no, I do not think the wife would appreciate it given I persuaded her it was a "joint" purchase so she could watch films on it ;)

(truth is, if you can find them in stock, they are not expensive (considering the size)...... I paid £2K for it but that was 2 years ago and given the way of such things it must be far less now.)

My very first time playing ED was with the rift, and i almost exclusively use the rfit while playing. The only time i don't use the rift is when im looking for trading routes and im in the galaxy/system maps a lot. Besides that, its all rift game play.

I totally agree with the cockpit views too. In the rift, every ship feels totally unique. Outside the rift... they are all kind of the same... One of the biggest reasons for me not liking the python was because i felt so confined in it. Coming out of the T7 where i could lean forward and see out the bottom of the ship, surrounded by open view, the python was... very confining. Then i got into the T9 and it was just space... everywhere. So open and amazing. Now, i've hopped into an Anaconda, confined once again... but the maneuverability and speed are well worth the trade off.
I can only imagine exploring in an Asp though. Those open cockpit views are just unbeatable in the rift.
