Community Event / Creation Forum Podcast - Just a thought !

I was sitting here reading everything as usual, and a little spark went off in my head (might of been the baked potato I just ate) and it is probably a rubbish idea, but I just wanted to put it out there to see if I am correct in my assumption that it is a rubbish idea.

O.k here goes, I was thinking (and I do have the time) about doing a weekly podcast about whats going on here on the ED forums, A Forum based show, if you like .. Just for fun.

I was thinking that it would be a nice way of condensing a load of discussions into one place, things like new interesting/stupid or over-used discussions, the weekly drabble contest (maybe a winners acceptance speech) and other interesting/dull or dumb things happening here .. I would probably leave the update news to the superb Lave Radio guys ... don't want to step on any toes here ... I was thinking that the show would be more about the forum than the game itself.

Like I said, I do think it is a bit of a stupid idea but it could be fleshed out into something good, (I think :S) It could be fun.

If you have any ideas for possible content or just want to tell me it's a stupid idea please, feel free.


Like I said it is just an idea, that popped into my head ... so it isn't thought through ..

I like the idea, Im not sure its practical...

Simon and I created news for a thargoid and Fer-de-lance tracker and in--game action news etc....

And I think the community would love another podcast and more voices...

Plenty of room for it..

And plenty of help...

That's the problem I see, Practicality, A lot of stuff goes on everyday here that makes me laugh (or moan) but to build a show around that might be problematic, as I said it is only an idea, but I do enjoy reading the forums and there is possibility there, it's just the execution of those possibility's.

Any idea's on which way to go would be appreciated and welcomed ... Like I said it could be fun.

Just how to build the content, The drabble contest is a weekly thing so that would be an easy addition and (hopefully) bring more attention to the contest.

Also, Discussing threads that interest or bore, or even discuss some of the fantastic ways threads get derailed would be funny, Things like ..


- Thread derailment of the week.
- Answers to questions that have been asked a 1000 times
- Poll of the week (There is always a new poll !)

That is the sort of thing I was thinking of... but funnier of course ..(Probably not as funny as News though ... I have limits!)

Any ideas?

Those ideas seem good to me.

Why don't you see if it could be a sort of extra news feature on news, instead of a new show. That way you don't have to produce so much material each week - which is quite a job I believe.

And if the crew are willing to incorporate some extra content, you can start off small to test the waters.

Ok, some would say 'standards' as opposed to limits....

is meant to be role play podcasts, but we tend to pick at the goings on on the forum...

Im not against bringing in more content...... but we're struggling keeping the length down.. and its more news based..

If you can create content in the style of a community round up, we can slot it in for sure....

If you want to try it out!! I'll have a word with Listeri69 and see if he's up for it...

I did mean that I wouldn't be as funny as you guys, but as to standards ... I have none ... Anyway, this is just an idea at the moment, no more than that yet.

I have all I need to record nice clean audio (pitfalls of being a sound-engineer) but no real ideas on content so until I have that sorted it is just an idea I had eating a baked Potato.

If I come up with anything worthy I will let you know.

The only worry is that it might add further fuel to some of the long running and heated debates, though if some one was summing them up in a podcast, I might not feel the need to read through them

Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

I myself have my own vision of what I want ED to be so if I did do a podcast it would reflect my views (when I was talking ), not adverse to the idea of talking with someone with conflicting views on those heated debates, that would make things a little more interesting, maybe a nice weekly debate... stoke up some fires ..

I don't think it would stop them, some threads seem to have a life of their own almost like one of those horror film monsters that refuse to die.

I don't think it would stop them either, they are like the Terminator "It will not stop until you are dead" (bit excessive)

But it could be fun to discuss those heated topics anyway as they are always going on in the forums and always cause debate ... it's a good idea, i think.

A little more flesh on the bare bone that I cast ...in the style of overused lines in action movies ....... it's a long shot, but it might just work!
