Economics...it always comes down to that. Fortunately, I'm not a poor card puncher anymore and can game like I've always wanted to

It doesn't - these are still important features for the core game. We're still developing for PC as well as the new platforms.

Thanks, that at least clears it up for now - and confirms it's essentially a developing story. I'd suspect it will be what you say for launch - and maybe one day we can fly together if the technical part of it can be worked out.
I'd hate to see them attempt something like make a pie, the whole town would burn down.
DX12 was pioneered on Xbox and was initiated by that console so please do not spread falsehoods. This will be huge fall back on PC development and dx11 engine, Elite will be stuck in middle because console hardware.
FD dont sell your soul to Devil for more $
We will be making sure these forums are still a nice place to visit... there will also be a dedicated Xbox area on the forums. Not saying we won't allow crossover, but that will hopefully push people to discuss the game in the forum area for the platform they're playing it on.
This is the first time I'm beginning to have doubts about the future of Elite. I really hope that the hardware limitations of XB won't affect the PC development stream. I do remember Mr. Braben talking about future-proofing Elite Dangerous, so it's kind of ambivalent feeling here on my side. I don't know what to think about this if I'm honest.
I just repped you so hard my desk snapped in half ha haAre you kidding?? They'd never try something that difficult without wingeing for months that the apples need to be nerfed and they should have a drone with tractor beams to make pies like in EVE. And besides, pie-making doesn't make enough millions of credits/hr and the whole pie-making minigame is woefully incomplete, really.
This won't work. Trust me. One forum will be the central general discussion forum, most likely the one that already exists. I mean, think about it, if you were an XBox player, why wouldn't you read and post in the forum that is already established and has all the interesting threads? An XBox-related subforum will effectively only be useful for disussing topics that apply only to that version, or the console as a whole.
I pray to god that they're on their own servers!!!
If they're chucked in with the PC players I'll be very disappointed.
How do KS backers feel about cross platform servers?
Regards
Yeah, that's just not that case.
Each console, despite being the same at the very lowest level, is not just a PC. There are hundreds of thousands of lines of code running in the OS of a PC, Mac, and XBO that are totally different. While many elements will port across no bother, there will have to be work done. It's not just a BUILD > XBO button that will magically make it work. They have to integrate it with the XBO (granted much of this work will be done in their previous development on the cobra engine) so that basic things like saving a file, or sending network traffic work. Additionally, they will need to spend time getting the graphics set up just right.
It's not as complex as it used to be, but it's not a trivial job either. And they don't just have to do it once. Every update has to be built and tested on multiple platforms.
I wonder if planet landing and first person are still on the agenda - would like to see something 'soon' regarding these future expansions.
Personally, I'm glad FD have partnered up with Microsoft to release ED to the console market, for no other reason than it, hopefully, produces a nice strong revenue stream for the company and the game itself. That said, I certainly hope the past plans for the expansions have not been muddied or changed... with no one saying anything to the existing, invested, backer, community, because we all know how well that goes down, don't we!
Thinking a bit more about it (and seeing http://www.reddit.com/r/titanfall/comments/1yg83d/consoles_and_pcs_playing_together/)
I think it'll be OK - basically PC Elite and XBox Elite WILL be two separate platforms, that just share a background gameplay state.
Not everything will work on console, so it will most likely be Elite: Lite in that sense, and shouldn't necessarily hinder the PC game's progress (if Frontier don't mess it up - so....)
