ED to get Deathmatch modes for PvP ??

Anyone that says they want PvP but does not want an arena or something to fight in isn't interested in competitive fair fights. They are just interested in preying on easy targets, either to RP a pirate or just blow up easy player targets to get their lulz.

A virtual arena in game would be awesome. In the original Macross series, one of the best scenes is when Max and Milia go at it in the arcade and the entire arcade stops to watch. We as players enjoy watching YouTube videos of other players' exploits in ED. How fun would it be to watch two top notch CMDRs go at it in identical Eagles or other ship in a virtual arena so it is 100% on pilot skill? That would be epic to watch, and fun to participate in. Tho I'd probably lose every match I was in :p

Xbone release and rumours of Arena pvp. Im thinking the Arena pvp will be assigned wholly to the Xbone as I dont believe it will be able to handle one star system let alone 400 billion star systems.

The entire game is 3.64gb. All the galaxy stuff is done serverside. The only time you connect to the server is when you're at a station or you enter a new system.

Arenas basically already exist. It's like none of you guys have nav beacon camped at Ngaliba or Lp 811-17.

Those are the two closest anarchy systems to the starting location of LHS 3447.

They are FULL of PvP during busy gaming hours. Tons of fun too.

I don't think you're on board here skypine... (Norwegian?) This is... in my mind... something that makes PvP interesting. I've never engaged/attacked another human but I have been destroyed by them many times. 99% of the time it's because I'm in an Adder or an Eagle. I'm dead within 5 seconds. Despite being imo the best and most deadly pilot in the galaxy. I'd love a...... I want to be David Beckham essentially and if Davie Braben can't give me that then... I'm afraid I'm another "GOODBYE ELITE".

do you really believe that or are you being obtuse?

memory was the main limitation of the last gen consoles, and the current gen have plenty of that. I agree the "next gen" machines are weak, but they are still well above min PC spec for ED, and as they are all a consistent platform chances are optimisation will be better.

Sure the eye candy may need to be chopped but ultimately the only real concern for us imo is whether the GUI is gimped to take into account the controls on a console.... and I think it is fair to say the GUI and controls are already limited, probably for this very reason.

The ammount of tears will only increase by those who get engaged outside of these "no risk arena's" and every PVPer will be even more called a "GREIFER" who dares to pewpew an shieldless maxed out trading dude just because this is how this community works.

Confined Arena PvP in an open world 400 bill star galaxy is not going to remove the "problem" in Lave and other places like that.

Im a PvP'er and I cant see myself going there unless there are huge prizes or something. I dont go to warzones either for PvP (because there is none to be found).

Have players join faction navies instead, or policeforces or something like that. Give us the oppurturnity to make a difference in the galaxy as PvP'ers.

Want.

Need a virtual arena for testing and sim ( u can have unlocks that tie to PU if FD dont wanna give carte blanche ) and a gladiator arena. U could have arena's with gravity wells in them, cargo scoop ctf, etc. Flight model is games strongest asset. U can only play crimson triumph and incursion for so long. In PU there are may times u want to pew pew and you get 4 non combat USS's in a row and logout. Sometimes you are invested and can spend 4 hours on the experience, more often than not I just beeline to the tutorials. If I had dedicated pvp this game would pretty much be my goto. I am not a trader.

Oh and don't consider this counts as an expansion, please don't give them the impression a pvp arena implemented by jr lvl devs in short time with pre-existing assets should be a paid expansion. I already paid for this IMO.

It seems to me that the people against this are those that prefer to pick on weak targets and seek justification. An arena would be a place where they could genuinely test their skills, I think that's what frightens them. They might get called out.

Isn't this just the tutorial levels? They are called training grounds or something quite similar.

That's what I was thinking as well. Does anyone really trust anything in the Reddit Rumour mill?

I think this is nonsense. I also hope it's nonsense.

Ok... Necroing this but I think there is a valid reason! :p

Now is there a link between the leaked code, E3 and the galnet news from today?

Federal President Hudson Looks to the Future

In a speech to business leaders today at the Banqueting Hall in Quenisset on Mars, President Hudson hinted at a raft of new policies to motivate the Federation’s youth.

“As I said when I was the Shadow President, we are entering dangerous times. The Empire have been expanding recently more than they have for centuries. We have failed our own frontier worlds for decades and it is hardly surprising they are leaving the Federation as they are. We need a stronger military, a military that gets respect from our youth. We need better soldiers, better fighters, better pilots. We need to be more outward-looking.”

“Our youth has become flabby. Lying inanimate, plugged in to their sims hour after hour, day after day, living in dream worlds that never have existed and never will exist. They need to take part in the real world, and so we will be creating programs to allow them to do just that. Programmes that will excite them, engage them, train them. We will fund these programmes in full, the first of which will be announced to Congress on Tuesday 16th.

“The Empire needs to know the Federation is strong. We were strong, and now we will be strong again!”

Commentators have already been speculating about the introduction of conscription, but this was denied by Hudson himself “I believe in carrot, not stick”. Congress has already agreed to a substantial rise in military spending, and naval shipyards throughout the Federation are at maximum capacity. Cynics have also noted that the Core Dynamics share price is at an all-time high - Core Dynamics has been a backer of Hudson for a long time, and many say this is his payback.

And if this is something completely separate from the game and the galaxy in every way, what's the problem?

Well as you said if it is disconnected nothing wrong. But it seems like some people don't like seeing types of gameplay different than what they imagine, even if it does not impact them or the game in any manner.

I'm kind of curious how this is gonna work out, my gut says maybe.

Nothing FD does surprises me anymore.

The only thing predictable is that it will be bug filled, break things that used to work, require multiple patches, and finally start working fairly well just before they screw everything up again.

So it goes...
