Yup - which is why I recently changed my position on the hollow icons labeling CMDRS.

Make the appearance of the icon hollow/solid and the use of CMDR both options that can be changed in the functions menu just like orbit lines. There's really no reason any more for CMDR's to stand out from NPC's if they want to be left alone to go about their business without being harassed by griefers.

Early on when there was a much smaller base, it made some sense, but things have changed and it should now be optional if you want to raise the "Here I am, come get me" flag.

Anyway I had to double check the thread date (dang euro dates!) to fight the urge to tell the op this was old. :)

A virtual arena in game would be awesome. In the original Macross series, one of the best scenes is when Max and Milia go at it in the arcade and the entire arcade stops to watch. We as players enjoy watching YouTube videos of other players' exploits in ED. How fun would it be to watch two top notch CMDRs go at it in identical Eagles or other ship in a virtual arena so it is 100% on pilot skill? That would be epic to watch, and fun to participate in. Tho I'd probably lose every match I was in :p

If it's an event coming across every now and then, then ye I would be up for it.
If this gets blended in Elite then it will destroy it's immersiveness and become just a random arcade PvP game.
So if they make it an event every month for 2 or 3 days to participate I wouldn't mind joining but making this a daily thing
you can join then my interest in this game is going to loose fast.

And talk for yourself I don't like watching video's of players exploiting in Elite.
