This is good new, I've got to ask (and apologies if it already has been, I did run a search but didn't come up with anything) Will the Xbox version be A: Free for those of us who own it on the PC and B: will your PC profile be able to be linked to your Xbox Live profile so you can play on the One and then switch to PC for example? I know that streaming games both to and from the One is coming with Windows 10 so this would be awesome too.

. No official word from FD here in this thread afaik.

I can only see this handicapping the game design and availability of the updates/patches as the console will be given timed exclusives over the PC and Mac due to the huge wallet that MS can throw around over the people who made this game possible which is those of us who pledge our hard earned money into the Kikcstarter.

If it wasn't for the Kickstarter people this game would never of been made, and now we are being kicked to one side by FD in favour of the console market.

My PC can run this game at max settings already without any stuttering or slow down, the graphics will never be updated now due to the game coming out on console. We will never see PG planets to land on due to the console, nor will we see any possibility of walking around our ships or the stations we land on due to the consoles. They can not cope with the data, hell they struggle with a game like Assassins Creed Unity with 20 or so npcs walking around the game scenes.

I am sick and tired of having games handicapped just to get them to run on the damn consoles. I own a PS4 but there are certain games I will not play on the console and certain ones I would only play on the PC. Elite Dangerous belongs on the PC/Mac not the crappy consoles.

Cynical this may seem, but be careful how much you cozy up to MS and they don't start impacting/influencing how this game should be, I notice they have a tendency to hog their games just for Xboxer's THEY DO NOT release PC versions of their top games for those who have PC's, so its a bit of a selfish one way street with them, and whilst I can see FD's point from the commercial consideration and cannot fault them for that, however be wary, or it may end up being trivialised or worse bought from under you and making it Xbox exclusive, to the detriment of PC owners yet again.

You seriously need to take a step back for a second there and read what you just posted ... Because to be honest you sound like an 'insert whining person here insult'.

Firstly Kickstarter backers are in no way being screwed here.. Everyone knew that the game was coming to consoles at some point. the fact thats its coming to consoles does not dinimsh the PC version in any way shape or form.

Secondly the PC version is not going to be 'dumbed down' or be 'inferior' to make sure it runs on a console either. Not everyone has an uber powerful PC so the game has to cater for those as well.

Get real ... And maybe stop sounding so self entitled ...

.... would require players to have Windows 10 installed.
If the player have Win10 installed and your GPU is DX12 compatible, the game will choose to use DX12 (and give option to fallback to DX11). If the player dont have Win10, he can only play in DX11.
By example, Star Trek Online have an option to choose between DX9 and DX11.

So, I dont see an issue in update the engine to use DX12 in Windows PCs. And it can be a good strategic marketing selling a game with "DX12" compatibility and features.

I just hope that the fact they FD is porting Elite into the xbox means also that they will push some more gameplay/content into the galaxy (in a good sense, not quick event sense ;)).

the fact thats its coming to consoles does not dinimsh the PC version in any way shape or form.
But it already did.. It's quite obvious now the UI and other things were designed with the consoles in mind from day 1!

I doubt anyone would complain if we had got the best version for the PC that they could do and then ported to the consoles later.

Quick time event button spamming is something I could happily live without.

The interdiction mini-game already comes close to it.

Wow, what a surprise!

Obviously by my rank, and that no one knows me, I am a 'noob' to these forums. I joined yesterday when I learned that ED was coming to Xbox one. Then I started reading the forums....
First a little background on me so you know where I am coming from. I am 45 year old male, father of three. I started playing games on the Atari 2600. When I was in the Navy I had two gaming passions, Mario on the original game boy, and Harpoon on the Apple. I also got seriously devoted to SWOTL. I shot down so many planes, so many. I played SWOTL on a 386DX, one of the first ever sold in California. I loved it, it was so fast and it was easy to change the auto.exec and bas files to run the different games that I had. Then as time went on with family growing and life happening, i got out of PC gaming and entered the console market heavily. I have owned the PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, Xbox, Xbox360, XboxOne, Ninetendo, Super Nintendo, Gamecube, and The Wii. I also bought a Dell xps for the three years of my life that I lost to WOW. So I really haven't done much PC gaming in the last 7 years or so. I do have a pc that will run simple stuff, Darkest Dungeon, Dungeon of the Endless...
So i have sat back and watched the Console war rage and just laughed. The differences between the two are so miniscule that the only thing that matters is the games. If a game is exclusive to a platform and you don't have that platform either buy it or shut up about it. There is no telling why it happens sometimes but it surely involves more money than I am ever going to make in my life time. So all the fanboys rage on to have something to jerk about and stand up taller than the other fan bay. Whoopee! I guess people really do need conflict and now that the Soviet's are not as imminetly dangerous, i guess hating the other console is the new drama.
Then I joined this forum. Holy . I can't believe the HATE and anger. You are PC gamers, you have widely varied systems. Some are worse than my console, some are better, but you all (if financially able) have the ability to upgrade and be better. The current consoles are not bad when compared to the middle of the road PC right now. In 6 months or a year or 2 that will dramatically change and we all know that. So don't hate on the hardware.
Updates: Microsoft has dramatically changed their update progress and it is well known in the console world. Updates happen much faster. Not as fast as a game developer updating their own game directly to you, but it is pretty fast now. Microsoft understands that now and is changing and has changed. So if you have to wait for one more day or week, does that really kill your game. Does it really grind your gears and make your gonads hurt?
Crossplay: ALL game systems, other than Nintendo, realize that to make gamers happy that crossplay and multiplay is going to happen. microsoft has already announced that the change to Windows 10 is going to allow this to happen. Game developers are probably already working on that content now. Fables Legends will be able to be played on a PC or a Xbox at the same time. It is already happening now. It is not a question anymore whether or not the CAN do it, they ARE doing it and it will only grow as time goes on. If ED does not have it now, then they might in the future. Get used to it, it is happening. If you don't like it, go play something else and quit trolling Frontier with whatever amount of money that you spent being the amount that is going to break the companies back. Believe me, a TON of people are going to buy this on Xbox, and a majority of them will not play for more than a month, and then they will be gone. Frontier will have a load of money though. Money they can use to constantly improve and expand the game for those people that stay on whatever platform they are on.
Annoying Players: ALL systems have annoying gamers. After reading these forums i can see some individuals that I will NOT ever play with if I can avoid it at all. YES, there are TONS of annoying thirteen year olds on COD screaming about they don't even know about. Hopefully there is some sort of MUTE ability from Frontier for this. Don't worry, like i said earlier they will be gone when the shine wears off, or they get bored with 'arena wars'. And if you think there are no annoying PC players, you apparently don't read this forum.
Made for Console: I would be willing to bet that this has been planned for a VERY long time to go to Xbox. This isn't something that just happened and all of a sudden it is ready for this summer. Really? NO, this took years to make sure that it would work on consoles. Wake up about that. If you kickstarted this and are angry that it is going to console, I am sorry you didn't read the print. I am sorry that you feel cheated that a game is expanding faster than the developers thought. I am sorry you don't have the game that you wanted yet. So quit or keep on playing, your choice. It is also your choice to be a whiny child about it, or to grow up and enjoy what you have. Which is, from what i can tell, a thouroughly enjoyable game with lots of promise.
The only reason I bought a PS4 was becasue of NMS coming out for it I drooled over everything I saw about ED. I wanted the boring long flights to find nothing. I wanted to buy insurance and spend my bonus on a larger ship. I want to trade drugs on the black market and harass the federation. I want to hunt down the wanted and die horribly because my reflexes are not what they once were. I want a space sim, I want ED. I am happy that this is happening. I guess I was naive to believe that ED players would rejoice over thousands of new players coming in and affecting the galaxy. I understand a lot of the complaints and probably know more about them than you do.
Maybe it is my age, but games are games. Enjoy them whenever and wherever you can. Your phone, your tabletop, your ultra $4000.00 PC or your $200.00 nvidia box. It's all games, if you find yourself raging about something, then maybe it isn't fun for you anymore. Maybe you should move on.

It was fairly obvious from the beginning, plenty of people mentioned it at the time. And yes, Elite does feel like a console game, it always has.

There goes my i told you so. I knew it, i just knew it they were dumbing this game down for consoles so they could say we're not dumbing it down for consoles, they already did.

Welcome to the forums. As you can see, there is a lot of venting, steaming, hissing and other train like effect around here.

Unfortunately the nature of these forums is also that there are a lot of posts made as if they are statements of fact, with no real evidence behind them whatsoever, sometimes just as an immediate emotional reaction to an announcement.

If you want to get the real low down on what's happening, I suggest subscribing to one of the several options where you can see only posts by FD personnel. This way you can filter out the opinions from the official word.

Many posts on this thread are claiming that certain features of the game were made that way on purpose for consoles. In every case, there are other explanations as to why the game was designed that way, and often those explanations have been published and discussed a long time ago (even though it was always stated that there might well be Console ports I don't think they locked the design to that intention).

Also we have the conspiracy theorists, who always take the fact that information is being drip fed, partly for marketing and hype reasons, and partly because FD like to be certain about something before making it public, as an indication that there is some sinister conspiracy from the beginning to steal all our money and fly off to a country in the sun with it.

I promise, there are plenty of different types of people playing, so I'm sure you'll find some good friends around here as well. There are some uplifting threads like the ones about the people who found the NPC character that they had placed in the game in the name of a deceased relative.

A part of this though is that many people really love this Elite Fanchise, and they are concerned about any major change. I do actually share a bit of concern about how the updates process will work once the game is in a shared galaxy with other platforms, and it would also be good to get some reassurance that the two major expansions (Walking around space stations and ships, and Planet Landings) are still definitely on the cards. As and when that reassurance comes, people can then move on to the next meteorological event in a nice cup of Earl Grey.

Quote from Michael Brookes today.....

Consoles weren't a consideration when we developed the UI for the PC version.
