Newcomer / Intro FSD: Jumping From A to B

Not sure if someone has asked this previously...
When you frame shift drive jumping from point A to B is, for example, 10 ly in distance, versus 120 ly in distance, does the FSD animation takes longer for the latter?

e.g.
FSD animation for travelling 10 ly: 15 seconds.
FSD animation for travelling 120 ly: 15 seconds? or 5 mins??

It should take the same amount of time (ish), the FSD animation is there just to move you from one instance to the other, so it's not a function of distance.

I think the time is pretty much the same no matter how far the jump is.

What it is really doing of course is hiding time the client takes to load in data for the new system. Sometimes this can take longer if there is a lag spike or whatever.

I'd be happy to know which ship can make a 120 Ly jump ! ;)

I don't imagine there will be one... for now. Also, not very likely in near future either. Max jump for ladened ship is around 38 ly? It's going to be between 18 and 40 ly. The cost of acquiring a ship that can do better than 40 ly and more, I'd imagine, will be far beyond anybody's reach. The Anaconda is already 147 mil cr!

I for one have certainly noticed that not every jump takes the same time in hyperspace. But I haven't correlated it to actual jump distance, I just think there's a random element to it.

Perhaps it is more convincing to take on the notion that it takes a varying time to generate and load data of the target destination, its environment, spawn NPC in the area, manifest players in the area (if any), etc.. This is from software programming perspective, which is essentially what the game is. Interesting...

sometimes a few of my jumps seem to last for ages and ages ... but I think that is more to do with connection speed/wireless/low RAM laptop etc rather than distance

Good points. Next time I feel that a jump is taking a long time, I'm going to try to correlate it to the crowdedness of the system. That's probably it, load times vary.
