Newcomer / Intro Hyperspace jumping question.

So I decided to bail on the trading in a sidewinder as I cant make any money. I went to a system that had a line on the galaxy map, indicating that it goes SOMEWHERE. How do I jump from that first group of systems to other ones. I have a fuel scoop but cannot load a destination to get out of first system. What am I missing?

Second question. Seems that I shot at a Federal ship and am now WANTED. I keep getting attacked by the Feds. How to I become UNWANTED again?

The starter FSD has a fairly limited jump range. It's hard to tell from your post exactly what problem you're facing is, but maybe you're just trying to reach star systems that your FSD can't reach? Have you completed the Travel tutorial? I ask because I can't tell if you're having a fuel problem or are just misunderstanding how to go about a jump entirely.

To get unwanted you'll need to dock somewhere, go to Contacts, and pay off your bounties. Docking at an Outpost is advised in this case because outposts don't typically have security flying around scanning inbound and outbound ships. Trying the same at a station (where you have to fly in through the letterbox to land) is likely to get you spaced before you even get your landing gear out.

Click on a system you want to go to, then click on the icon that pops up beside the system name that looks like circles linked with dots. That will set up your jump route. Leave the station, steer towards the system marked on your screen and press J to start the Frame Shift Drive.

You need to pay a fine at a station to get rid of the WANTED status. Any station will do, I have found, but in extreme cases (if you're wanted really, really badly!) use one of the small Outposts. Once you've landed you'll find the facility to pay the fine under CONTACTS in your ship menu. :)

Filter your galaxy view to only show fuel scoop able stars, A/B/F/G/K/M/O, and you should find a viable route. You have to dock somewhere in Federation space (an outpost is best) and pay a fine to get rid of the wanted status

Sorry for not being exactly clear here. I was hoping I made myself understood. When I go to the GALEXY map, it show the systems that I can jump to. With the fuel scoop, I can make it to any of these systems. While looking at the map, there are systems that have a route line extending from them. At the end of that line is a disk looking icon with no name on it. I was thinking that it took me to an entirely new galaxy or something. I got to the system and did a scan. There appeared to be no location to jump to. I will watch the travel tutorial as I should have done that before posting here. Hopefully it till explain what I'm after. Also, I will try to pay off the fine. Thanks for the info.

If you're looking at the galaxy map and there are solid lines extending from some systems and they just stop abruptly, it may be that you simply aren't viewing it right. I know this sounds absurd but to save on graphical processing and memory, the galaxy map will only show systems within a certain proximity to the "plane" (the grid) of the map. Hold right-click and drag up or down to get the system in question closer to the plane and it should show more connections.

Maybe this isn't your issue but I had had an issue with this for a long time and what you mentioned sounded like it.

Thanks S.O. I did fix the WANTED issue by being blown up again. No longer wanted. 2 weeks in this and haven't made a dime. Very frustrating indeed. That Sidewinder ship is useless. IMHO. Will do as you say on the map and see if that fixes it.

Go to a station. Sell your basic discovery scanner. Buy a cargo rack. Do missions which say deliver x to y. Profit. Buy a new ship.

hi Anarky. I did just that before. Had a 6 slot cargo area although I did not see but a couple of those types of missions. I am currently bounty hunting around a planet next to a starport. (I Forget the name) I actually have about 35,000 credits now. Will do this today to try and build up some cash. Need another ship.

If you want to make money quickly I would consider trading in rare commodities. There are lists of known rare trade locations available out there, Lave for example.
