Welp, we just got ANOTHER big nerf to piracy... When will the least profitable profession get love?

Since i have never tried pirating, i would like to know if NPC pirating is viable at all. If not, it should be made so.

It isn't, especially since you can't get abandoned cargo from NPCs, and they almost always carry trash anyways.

Given how the devs haven't posted anything about player piracy at all in the weeks since the first announcement of marked cargo, title is still not flashy enough.

Lol, bet you still make more money than Explorer's and probably Miners too. That however is not the point. Lying in a thread title to try and get your point across immediately undermines the point you are trying to make, however valid that may be.

Meh. Orca passenger courier captains currently have it worse than pirates and the real pay out for piracy has always been ruining other players' gameplay experience. Pirates can achieve their main goal just fine.

So 0% on the sympathy meter.

Hey AtG, me again :)

Actually I have a question (originally posted elsewhere) which you may be able to answer ...

Could soneone briefly explain the whole "marked" goods thing. This is new in 1.2 right? but how does it work exactly (is it different from illegal goods that you've scooped up or is it just that)?

"and the real pay out for piracy has always been ruining other players' gameplay experience" what? Are you whining on forum about npcs too when they shoot you? That's exactly the correct experience, so player pirates actually improve your experience.

So what you are trying to say is that a Pirate is too lazy to travel for maximum profit? Traders must - why not pirates?

Have you ever TRIED pirating for a length of time as your sole income earning profession? It is hard enough as is to make money! Ten times harder than trading!

So why not make it even HARDER! YEAH! THAT MAKES SENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not.

We now have large convoys of ships in some strong signal sources, unfortunately those ships are mostly carrying small amounts of worthless cargo. What would be great is if the devs coded in some heavy escorts 'Elite Conda's/Pythons' And those T9's carried huge amounts of gold or other valuable items. At the moment we are just attacking purely for the thrill.

It's your choice to pirate.. Anyway, nothing stopping you from picking up the goods, traveling like the rest of us and then find another Anarchy system near your destination. Whilst doing rare trips I often break of the route to do a bit of piracy for fun

Explorers hopping from star to star, only hitting the space horn, definitely make more money than pirates. Miners also make more money than pirates and have considerably less risk of getting attacked by a maxed out Imperial Clipper who's after their bounty.

There are no lies in the thread title. It's a nerf, since stolen cargo did not have the same effect of instantly being worth its maximum rare value after scooping. It only gave the GA, which is not that high.

NPC pirates don't interdict you over and over knowing you don't have any cargo to drop, nor do they squat inside stations destroying people as they try to land while using exploits to hide from or shrug off damage from the stations guns. So yes player piracy's real pay off is making other players miserable by any means possible and that's currently quite achievable.

That's not piracy you're talking about. Check your dictionary and come again.

No, this is exactly as intended. FD wants to end player piracy. I can't really see any other motivation behind these changes.

And if this is the case I'm demanding a refund and suggest players file a class action lawsuit against ED for damages, breach of contract and false advertising. Braben specifically endorsed piracy during development and if they are backtracking their position on this they need to pay. If they want this to turn into some stupid glorified trading simulator then so be it. But I'll have none of it. That's boring as hell. I trade for a living. Why would I want to do it in a game, too?

Good luck with that mate..

Real pirates don't do that, either. They are more interested in scanning you for cargo, determining what you have, then collecting the tax. If you have none, they let you go as you're a waste of their time. Real pirates also don't grief or station camp as that's not profitable, ergo a waste of time.

"- Rare goods now remember how far they've travelled from home when scooped from space"

Now the only 2 anarchy rare goods trade route systems are worthless to pirate. The Lave area will turn from a fun mishmash of pirates, traders and bounty hunters to just traders. Furthermore, pirates will be forced to camp single star systems rather than jumping between Lave, leesti, orrere, diso, etc. Worst of all, this is coming with the introduction of "marking" goods, so rather than getting you a nice fat bounty to encourage interaction and conflict, pirates now have their goods magically unsellable.

"Nah mate", the black market dealer frowns as his thugs carry stolen slaves to their sorting pens. "We can't buy this gold off you for half price. An eagle once scanned it from 2KM away".

When will frontier stop hurting the most interesting career in the game?! It's already incredibly unprofitable and dangerous, now they want to make it even more so, as well as being harder for new players to start trying it? I despair

I've missed something here, what have they done exactly.
