You might be interested in this excellent reddit post here http://dk.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/1mee0a/what_is_elite/ which has a lot of background and links to the wiki and various videos and other info about the entire series :)

But in a sense, it will be a sandbox game and you will be able to free roam in our very own Milky Way Galaxy, featuring some 400 billion systems, given you have the fuel to do so.

If you whant to see all the sun's in the game for more than 1 sec you better have a clone program ready at your disposal for sevral 1000 year's. :D

When you say sandbox I think I can do things with the sand, change it, build with it, make roads and tunnels, protect my stuff or bury it, not just walk on it. So essentially, I hope it is not a read only version of a sandbox with pretty walls. Otherwise it becomes a driving game or a crossroads game with a nice sky and you are west of a house, standing in an open field.

I hope their are puzzles.

I hope there's a way to leave your mark on the universe, especially via the creation of infrastructure on and around asteroids, moons, and planets. A sandbox in which you can't build a few castles would be greatly disappointing.

I've read elsewhere they have confirmed over 150 billion systems. You cannot see them all in your entire lifetime. So yeah sandbox would be a fitting description. hehe. :D

Beware of sandboxes if there are cats in the area.


Also be aware that if you throw the sand, it's flight path will be adjusted to make it more fun, and that wanting to own the box may be a whole different game.
