Do you even Type 9 bro?

Please excuse the silly thread title, I just wanted to express how much I adore the type 9.
.
I acquired it last night and after some hairy 'on the edge of insurance' moments; I am loving the way it feels to fly! This is how all freighters in space should fly!
.
Anyone else been this surprised and pleased when they first stepped into the big beast?

P.S. does this forum need more sections like one for ship discussions?
I adored my type 9 if it had a jump range I'd still be in it. It was very relaxing to fly makes a great noise, a better boost note than the conda (which annoys the heck out of me). I like big ships always have I bought the game to fly the T9 and the conda. The type 9 needs either a buff to jump range or a bigger brother preferably.
the one critisisim aesthetically is that dash.. Seriously? The type 7 had a better appointed living space, it looks like someone put a hay bale on it and tried to clean it up with sulphuric acid.
i was expecting leatherwork for the flagship of the Lakon traders not a crime scene involving a horse.

Seems there is much love for the ship which is nice. I bought it with only 6mil to spend on upgrades and it was tough to begin with, once I realised that a fuel scoop is a requirement for it I really started to enjoy myself.
.
Looking forward to upgrading her fully and chilling out. :)

I loved flying it at first too, nailing a perfect landing in a T9 is very satisfying. Cut throttle and drift to a complete stop and descend to the platform with only the slightest corrections on the way. The 64t fuel tank also allowed me to make 4 trips before running out. On the way back from the 4th trip I swapped some cargo for a big fuel scoop to recoup 250k in fuel.
The small jump range got to me in the end though. My most profitable route turned into 3 jumps and turning away from a star starts feeling extremely slow. Chain boosting with A grade engines also only gets you about 204 on average, slow to get to the station.
After I upgraded to an Anaconda I never looked back. 90% of the cargo space, yet only 1 jump where I needed 3. Much faster to get to the station and turn after a hyperscape jump. Much better on heat management too. T9 was a pain when I arrived 'upside down' in a station and the pad is right next to the door. Roll, roll, roll dammit roll already.

Am six million away from purchase price. This is my ship of choice from back in the Alpha days. I know I need capital etc, but I know once I hit 76 million I'll be too weak to not buy! Then I'll be hauling 500 tonnes of grain for the next 50 years! :p

No the shields aren't as good class 3 vs 4 but 3A shields are good enough for a trading python. also suggest getting a class 4 scoop. Unless you are making 1700+ a ton. anything under that and the scoop offsets fuel cost better than the 16 tons of cargo. I've done the math :p

i dropped my cargo down to 240t in my Python. Running a 4D Shield, 3A Scoop, with mostly A grade modules and decent weapons. I dropped my fuel tank down in size to extend my loaded jump to 15.2ly so i could do my decent route in a single jump. I can pull 3.5million an hour, never have to run from an interdiction, and im good for hitting uss's and conflict zones as is.. really been suprised at how versatile the Python is.

Friendly advice from personal experience. Do not fly a ship without insurance. And you need at least 30 million CR before you can have it setup to haul 500 tons and actually jump anywhere. @500 tons with 6A FSD my jump range was around 12.4 LY

6A FSD is 16 mill CR. after buying all the cargo holds thats around 5 million CR. Top notch power dist. is around 9 million..

and instead of pulling numbers from my butt here's a tool you can use to show exactly what im talking about .. http://www.edshipyard.com/

If anyone is desperate to get into a ship they can haul rares for a few circuits, I was in a position of choosing between insuring my T9 or buying 500T of cargo, did a quick rare run and generated a few million to buy cargo. Also a quick circuit is a great way to get used to operating a cargo ship without doing a normal A-B-A Run

I bought a T9 yesterday, it makes the T7 seem like a souped-up sport's car on steroids, however, for those cmdr's that want to make money and are not bothered about the turning rate of a T9, then this ship is the biz. One word of warning... If your thinking about getting a T9 get it NOW.. I normally get attacked by NPC pirates about twice in 6-7 hours of playing, however, when you buy the T9, for the next 3-4 hours almost EVERY trip you make will involve being attacked by NPC Pirates! Don't believe me? Then buy a T9 he he. After 4-5 hours everything goes back to normal and you can fly in relative peace again.

Just discovered that, fuel cost really eat into profit. I've equipped a 2A Fuel Scoop.

That's wierd I've played both pre and post 1.1 in a type 9 and I've only ever been interdicted twice in it. Both times were pre 1.1 so I blew them up with missiles. After 1.1 I found a route that made sense to run in a T9 so I bought one and took the shields off had no problems whatsoever.
To any perspective readers I would still follow his advice, wings is going to have... Implications... For those that ride the credit whale.

It has a lot to do with your rep in the area you are trading. I'm allied and friendly on all my routes, can go day's without being interdicted. Head to a new area with no rep, the cops pull me over all the time

I appreciate the advice but flying without insurance is a fav hobby of mine... Especially when listening to Lynrd Skynrd! :p
If I lose it all I start again. Though only "died" once and that was my own fault. i think the T9 will have to wait though if I can't even afford to boost it out the system!

I was in an independant system, had no rep to speak of. Didn't matter where I went since buying the T9 and later the conda (which I've had for a while now) while in those ships I've been interdicted a grand total of 4 times. I'm not complaining but I was beginning to think that's just the way it was. So this is news to me.

Haha, you are brave, must admit I have done it a few times, the tension is amazing. I refuse to do it now, you could be the most careful T9 cmdr, then Mr Anaconda boosts into the slot while you are undocking, or the station glitches, or any other number of strange bug's I have seen.

Anyway, if you own an T9, after a few hours trading you will have no choice but to be insured, I couldn't spend the money fast enough... that's until you have enough cash for a Conda. I had 340 million in assets when I flew my conda, yet I was still struggling for money, it bleeds you dry.

This is exactly what happened to me. Was exiting a station in my T9 when it glitched out. I popped and couldn't meet the insurance by 40k credits. doesn't begin to describe how i felt. So i sat there staring at a Sidewinder with only 4 million credits and a burning sensation in my gut. Sent in a ticket. that was two months ago WITH NO RESPONSE.

Was it the games fault that i didn't have enough to meet insurance? NOPE, mine. would have been nice to actually have a support team that DOES something though.

Lesson learned and 3 weeks of hard grinding completely shot in the backside. I don't fly without insurance. EVER.

If i have 5 million to cover insurance and insurance is 4.5 million and my ship blows up. I pay insurance and only have 500k what do i do? i downgrade to another ship. Build myself back up and then upgrade again.

The excitement of flying without the insurance is completely eclipsed by the horror of not being able to by back a 90 million credit or higher ship.

Type 9 flying:

Boost - slow slow slow - Boost - slow slow slow - Boost - slow slow slow - Boost - slow slow - oh, brake for the entry. Slam it into a wall to slow it down.

Slow slow slow (even more slow turning) - land.

Starting is the funny part:
align with slot, boost and watch them others pop.

Oh man that really really sucks. Support did get back to me about a transaction error I had a month ago. They are getting around to it don't get your hopes up just yet but I hope they get to yours too.
When 1.1 hit I checked the forums before I logged in. Saw that the anaconda was made of glass. Logged in bought an asp and went exploring as far away as I could get from other ships until that calmed down.
When 1.2 goes live guess where I'll be?
lurking in the forums spamming the refresh button.
if you have Nvidia shadowplay proof certianly helps future resolutions.

I love my 9er!

Don't forget your beam turrets, and anything that interdicts you save for clippers, python's and 'condas get melted before you can swing the ol' gal round to face them!
Throw in some shield boosters when they come in, and she'll be sturdy even with A5 Shields.

But damn, that loop of shame is a painful one!
