One for the Devs?: Is this an exploit or intended feature?

If there was a way to buy 5 tons of cargo and travel less that 2Ly and achieve the following in less that 10 mins would that be ok?

Total outlay: 13,283 Cr
Total revenue: 85,341 Cr
Total profit: 72,058 Cr

Gross Margin: 84.44%
Mark Up: 542.48%

(Some times you might have 20 tons sometimes less but the margin and mark up are going to be just as high...)

Well there is a way to do it..... Watch it here

Of course around Leesti/Diso/Lave you can just keep going in circles racking up the money.....

Discuss..... :)

See version 1.2 beta change log for closing this. Server-side change:

- Rare goods now remember how far they've travelled from home when scooped from space

I came to say this - I would certainly consider this to be an exploit...not sure if FDEV will punish for it though.

Edit: I even made a note about this in the patch notes thread (although of course you need to jump, not just be outside the no-fire zone):
Well I was going to test this tonight (before I read these patch notes). I only heard about the fact that it was broken today.

I was thinking maybe it was exploitable by purchasing rares, flying just outside the no-fire zone, dumping them, scooping them, and then flying right back to the station to sell them...

Frankly, if you have an Asp, it's probably faster money to load a cargo hold full of rares and make a long haul to another rares hub compared to scooping all that cargo from space.

ROFL how can you ask if it is an intended feature and still keep a straight face? :D

FWIW, the fix is why Pirates are currently throwing hissy - fits and shedding crocodile tears all over the boards.

As stated in the beta 1.2 update, rare goods will now remember, how far they are from their origin if i recall that right. That would deal with this exploit.

[edit] why did i oversee the second post? Sorry for double info. [/edit]

Well it does go against the intended mechanic of rares but as soon as you get any cargo space A to B trading become significantly more profitable. Personally I'd turn a blind eye to this as its the only thing worth pirating and the only way for pirates to make any real money. Beyond that it also gives early players in lower level ships a way to get into a large ship since seeking luxuries is now out of favor. Seems like a non issue to me.

Thought exactly the same....

Certainly NOT an intended feature!

Did you really need to ask OP?
