Shallow game play for the solo cmdr?

Hi cmdrs,

Is it me or has FD forgotten about solo play?

I do not have the time to team up with other players for multilayer game play, although I think it's a good path if you want it.

I am a keen player, for many years of Elite, and I have played ED for many hours (I am a beta backer). I do wish however that the Dev would put more effort and time into in depth missions (not just simple trading or combat) and exploration with planetary landings.

I am loosing interest in the game which will only be rekindled by some development soon on the solo aspects of the game.

Am I alone in this?

I'm a little disappointed in the 'focus on multiplayer' the whole gaming industry exhibits right now although I understand why they do it. The problem is that the mainstream gamers mostly want multiplayer/co-op these days and I feel that single solo players are a minority now.

I hope FD do realise that their original game wasn't multiplayer focussed and do some interesting things for the solo gamer. And I really hope Powerplay isn't going to be multiplayer focussed either. I guess we'll have to wait and see...

At least I'll have a lot of fun with the debug camera in 1.2.

eventually theres an upcoming new thing that is coming ..... expansion called 'power play' , that might bring more things

I'm not sure planetary landings will be 'all that'.

Take X3 Afterbirth for example. They made station landing and walking around on the station a thing. It sucks though because every person you see there is the same, every thing you do with them is the same, and every station looks almost exactly the same. In the end, all it does is waste your time by making you get out of your ship to do the same stuff you could do from space.

I could see the same problem with planetary landings...after all, how many distinct worlds do the devs have time to make? Wouldn't you get tired of landing on the same 5 planets (visually). Aren't you already used to the same 3 or 4 station types now? I just don't see that adding much to the game.

As for 'power play', I'll wait and see, but I have some fear it will be like others have said...wings starting minor factions to take over a system or something. Couldn't they just turn up the dial on the impact you have? That would make faction influence change faster. Either way, I don't see that making the game 'deeper' or 'richer'. Just an opinion.

Totally agree. X tried it and it was absolutely terrible and did nothing good for the game. FD really shouldn't be trying to compete with the "features" of the "Other Space Game" Those features don't make me want that game anymore than I already don't.

I'm a 'loner' too, I have no interest in wings so I'm really hoping that down the line 1.3 has some cool stuff for us solo guys and gals.

They won't really design Planets, just like the Galaxy the Game will procedural generate them. We will see how good that works, its hard to tell anything at this Point.

All we can do is choose to be optimistic or pessimistic about it. I do the first ^^

Hi Bomba,

I too am optimistic for the future. From what I see already the potential is there for a challenging game, both solo and multilayer.

I just hope the 'solo' development follows the current trend of multilayer.

I'm sure they haven't forgotten about solo play.

Wings was a much needed update, even if it was multiplayer focused.
They said from the start that they planned to bring in new co-op features to allow CMDR's to work with each other easily, which this update does, and pretty well too.

Once 1.2 is out, 1.3 will come along, and I'm sure there will be more features for solo and multiplayer in the works.

Remember that they can't throw everything they are working on in one patch. The more stuff they add, the more likely things go wrong, and is harder to keep track of issues

Elite: Dangerous is geared towards solo playing, even multiplayer is really players soloing together. With the possible exception of community events, there is no multiplayer content - missions or challenges that require a coordinated team to complete. There are some good efforts at player - generated gameplay but the game isn't really built for this.

That said, ED is great at what Elite was always great for: one man against the galaxy, trying to make a name and fortune for yourself. Procedurally generated content may be the reason why you don't have scripted missions or a storyline, but what it does is give you this huge universe to explore. In that respect, ED is more immersive than any other Elite incarnation or other Elite clones space sims before it. Take it slow and enjoy the grand scale. There is more content on the way. Don't expect anything radically different, but don't dismiss it just because 1.2 is about teamplay.

agree, maybe we dont need anymore planetary landings as said it would always look the same annd means nothing more, and be really difficult and timespending to do.

yeah, i guess many people were disappointed because elite dangerous havent revolutionize much in the past months...

the phase that were exciting was like alpha when they were gradually adding trading, travelling to another system, the outfitting, etc.. all this sound like the game was coming along gradually. even the galaxy map was a big thing. yet there was things that were announced that didnt made the game like stations would have structures generated by random, so almost any places could be a surprise to us... also , let say..... mmmm different ships designs based on slight procedural generation too ( as shown in a newsletter) , were things that could have been nice ! ^^ :p

I'm not trying to be contrary here but I play in open and have seen one commander in the last 3 weeks so open could be said to be solo play anyway once you get away from the population.
