Haven't played in months. What's changed?

I more or less stopped playing in early January. Has anything changed since then, by any chance?

Short version:

Stuff thats already happened:

Community goals.
Station/capship building and colonisation.
Nicer looking planets.
A few thousand bugfixes and tweaks.
NPC's no longer instantly turn hostile for one accidental hit, and they can't kill steal either.
Python got nerfed, which generated much rage and doomsday preaching and turned out to be a non event as its still a very good ship, just not the unconquerable demigod of old.
There's been a lot more community generated content, with system blockades, toppling governments and most recently protection rackets and gang warfare, which is fun.
We now have an interstellar cyborg barman captaining a moving station around the galaxy.
Much nicer sound.

Stuff that will happen in the tuesday 1.2 update:

4 person wings will be available, wingmen can set markers on the galaxy map, share bounties and get bonuses on community goals and trading i think.
New Strong signal sources, stuff like 4 elite anacondas attacking, designed to be taken on by wings.
External camera so we can admire our new paintjobs.
2 new ships, the Fer de Lance and the Vulture.
Revised heat management thats a lot less forgiving-module damage starts at 70% heat, increases in severity until 150%, at which point you take hull damage.
A new reboot system, which lets you strip integrity from intact components to jury rig broken ones back to a few percent hull integrity. Its designed to let people with destroyed thrusters, sensors, fsd etc limp back home.
A few thousand more bugfixes and tweaks, plus some rebalancing and probably a bunch of other important things I forgot.

Thats about it. If your looking to jump back in its never been better. On tuesday, when 1.2 is released the game will pretty much be in the state it really should have been in on launch.

@Spartanbeef You're massively over exaggerating the amount of bug fixes, around 200 does not equal thousands.
And you got the stats on heat management wrong, damage occurs at 100%, but it scales differently now.

To the Op: not much has changed if anything. The game is still.. well... 'samey' as folks say. The 1.2 release coming soon adds nothing to the core gameplay. Wings... Yeah. So folks can get in a wing of 4x and ... do nothing new. The game is in sad shape atm imo.

Biggest change is coming with 1.2. It makes "I bring friends" a reality instead of a well rehearsed marketing joke.

Wings add nothing to the core gameplay? Just... wow. I couldn't possibly agree less.

You must not have played 1.2 yet? The game is still pretty empty but, 1.2 deepens the water quite a bit and adds more to do. Once people figure out how to use wings and what can be done with them, things will change real fast. For example, escorting a wealthy, smart trader can net you more credits/hour than regular combat roles or descending on a RES in a full wing can draw more bad guys and increase profit. Not to mention it's fun as hell.

I'm not saying ED is all of a sudden filled with content but, 1.2 is a game changer in most that have played it eyes.

So what does it add to the core game? Please enlighten us...

Roving wings (seen up to 7 vultures so far), strong signals sources, ability to "wing" with traders for 5% of profit (paid by the station) ability to fight as 4 player wing and share bounties, good (IMO) clean easy to use comms, including voice, team up to explore.........to name a few.

Wings of pirates is a good one too. You'll see, it's a great update. Also, Vulture and FDL. Bug fixes, tweaks, additional mechanics and features.

Heh, yes. I have been playing 1.2. Deepens the water - really? So escorting a wealthy player is game changing huh? Wow. What will you now do with credits that you couldn't do before? What else do you find game changing in 1.2? Please tell us...

Oh, and your own words: the game is still pretty empty. Yes, it is. Looks like we agree.

What about for solo players? (NPC "wings" were already in the game btw)

Yes, really.

Like, wow, yeah it is. I can make more credits escorting a trader wingmate faster than I ever did as a BH or combat bounds pilot.

Wow. What will you now do with credits that you couldn't do before?

I'll buy better ships and gear I couldn't afford before unless I wanted to be a trader.

No thanks, I've listed a few above already in previous posts and I don't care for your tone.

It adds playing with friends in a tactical, profitable, easy, and fun manner. If you disagree that this adds to the core game, then fine, but I don't particularly care for your attitude.

There is no need for an argument here. The OP asked for what changed, we told him what changed. He didn't ask for everybody's opinion on if the changes are good or if the game is more worth playing now.

Wings is a multiplayer update, so, other than bigger wings, much much better AI, bug fixes, tweaks there's not a lot, relatively speaking for the "solo" player, until you see all the fixes and tweaks in action. Everything combined, will change even solo but, maybe not in a direct way like additional missions would for example.

Errr... Okay. No argument here. This is not an argument. It's a major difference of opinion. The 1.2 release brings nothing new to the core game. Explain what you think is so great and is so "wow" and new to the core game.

Yes, really.

Tone huh? Okay. I've simply stated there's nothing really new here in 1.2. Looks like folks such as yourself are struggling to counter this point. There really is little new in 1.2 other than the wings and that appeals to very few players. Sure, there's 2x new ships with a mix of the same old stats. Wow. So it's x guns and x cargo vs. x guns and x cargo at x credits. So what? There's nothing new to missions. Nothing for explorers. Nothing for mining. Nothing overhauled for bounty hunting or pirating or smuggling. Nothing new to make rank progression mean anything. Nothing new to make rep mean anything. Nothing new other than to simply reinforce what's already in the game which isn't much. Game is still an inch deep.

What should the OP expect with 1.2 vs. 1.0?
