Was there a sneaky "Overheat Hotfix" last night?

I was randomly playing yesterday, doing my usual Bounty Hunting with my regular setup:
2 x C2 Beams
4 x C1 Multicannons.

My usual routine when fighting most NPCs is to fly in, scorching the opponent's shields with just the beams on Firegroup 1 and then follow up with FG2 which uses all my weapons.

Normally after a few seconds, the beams start stuttering and overheating, as expected, but the multicannons will continue to fire without much problem.

This was all going seemingly fine when without warning, I suddenly found that it no longer worked that way anymore. I would fire the beams, then switch to group 2 but the overheat suddenly would cut the multicannons out as well. I would press the trigger and I would get just 1 shot firing, then overrheat. Even if I waited a couple of seconds, it would still only let me shoot one shot then nothing! Nada!

However, if I removed the beam lasers from FG2, then I can fire the cannons freely without ever taking my finger off the trigger as before. Just without the normal "burst beam lasers". Weird!

This had never EVER been the case previously, although I can sort of understand it makes sense. So I'm not complaining about it, but I am a little confused as to whether this was a bug or a sneaky hotfix to change the way these worked.

Or perhaps I have somehow been really lucky for the last 3 months or so playing in that my multicannons were never seemingly affected by heat problems.
For reference, I always fight with 4 pips to Weapons, so I shouldnt have had any problem with keepingg the cannons firing.

Same here - I am finding it somewhat frustrating, so am getting rid of the beams. Also planning on upgrading my powerplant to give me more available power for these. But these are some expensive fixes!

I keep telling myself that I'm going to go buy a trader, to store up some cash, but I have found a very short route that:

1. Is in friendly space (for me)
2. Has lots of pirates right nearby a regular station of mine ranging from 1k to 50k bounties
3. Has a black market
4. Often has decent missions for resources
5. Doesn't have much (if any) military interdiction

So, I can scoop up all the cargo I see, I can blast the bejesus outta the pirates, and all on a very very short trip (in system). I can also go do some resource or pirate missions if I feel like it.

For these reasons, I am really liking my place right now - I do get killed from time to time, and sometimes its painful, but its more fun to shoot bad guys, and sell all my stolen cargo!!

Just use one beam. With 3 pips you can fire it pretty much continuously.
In beta 1.2 I've been using a Vulture with a large fixed pulse and a large fixed cannon and again, 3 pips and you can fire continuously with the pulse.
