Scanning timers: worth reducing?

IMO, this 10-second rule should be reduced. I am fine with the timer, it works for me. 3 seconds or so would be much, much more comfortable and less cumbersome.

That would apply to the scanners (KWS, Cargo, Frameshift), the disco scanners and the automatic scanning through sensors.

Whaddya think?

DSS take longer than 10 sec. I've seen me waiting almost a minute for scans, especially over the last week. I don't know if it is just me but it does look like for us explorers FD is nerfing us. Add to that the fact that the much hoped for system map improvements haven't materialised and I feeling we explorers are being forgotten.

I think the DSS time is related to generating the data on the server, rather than anything hardcoded into the game. For me it seems to take longer at times when the system map also takes for-frickin-ever to load up, too.

Not noticed that one, just the slow increase over the past week on how long a object, be it star or planet, to scan. I also seem to have to get closer before scanning of planets begins. It might be just me though :)

Ah... that would also explain why it's an animated icon, rather than a countdown timer or equivalent (which would be nicer). That delay between scan start and scan finish is one of the things putting me off deep space exploration, I have to say. I have less of an issue with having to get close enough.

Most of the time you don't mind but the you see an Earth like popping up on the scanner and you just want a look. But there are a couple more blueish looking planets that nee checking first. That is when the fingers begin a tapping. :D

I think the scanner time should be based on the class of the scanner

Agreed, that would be better than just a slight increase in range as of now.

Could be right. That leaves the other scanners on utility mounts which could benefit to see the timer reduced. Those should not be difficult to reduce.

I think the scanner times are good as they are, too short would be unfair to smugglers and pirates. Its fun trying to balance target damage so he survives long enough to finish scanning him in a dogfight.

I'm pretty sure that the more expensive scanners are already faster.

I'm fine with the current timers, though it would be nice if there was an additional module that could reduce it.

No, they all take the same amount of time, the more expensive scanners have increased range.

No, all that is done during hyperspace before system entry, though your system has to create higher detail images once you open the system map or close with a planet. I've only noticed scanning speed differences based on distance, with the maximum/slowest range determined by object size.

The last time I fitted an expensive KWS it had a reduced time in comparison to the cheaper ones, however I usually fly a viper so to keep power demand down I use a cheap KWS and have done for months. The pricy ones used to be about 7 seconds I seem to remember, it could well have been changed by now.

I use the KWS a lot and am happy enough with the current timers - as others have said, reducing scan time will cause smugglers and the like more problems.
Smugglers and the like are already getting the smelly end of the stick...

Would be nice if they reduced the highrt price KWS. Especially the more expensive ones
