'Wings' portion of update. What will you do with it?

So apparently it's going to be too difficult to hunt down CMNDRs what with instancing and combat logging, so what are you going planning to use the 'wings' portion of the update for?

Dude, the first community event that kicks off when Wings goes live will be EPIC.

Everybody will pile over winged up and it will be frakkin carnage.

So you plan on using 'wings' to gang up 4 against 1 on innocent hard-working space-truckers doing community goals. I knew this was coming

Im not interested in bobs hauling goodies.

Im there to smash the pirates that are robbing the haulers.

But, yeah, nice going on making negative assumptions on my intentions.

I apoligise. I got the tone of your post wrong. But I'd bet my bottom dollar that 'wings' will have negative repercussions for the lone trader.

As an aspiring space trucker I welcome all the protection I can get

I dont even charge for my services. In fact i have built up a healthy balance sheet to cover the costs of getting ganked by bangers. Comes with the turf...

Lookout for Fred-Da-Lance and Vinnie Da Vulture at a booming spaceport in the very near future.

Of course it will. I understand where you are coming from.

Thats why there are plenty of commanders like me that are simply itching to play the good guy and smash those pirate scum back under the destitute rocks of villainy that they crawled from beneath.

That's good to know :) If I was more confident in taking on another CMDR and I had more credits to cover heavy losses I'd probably do the same. I accept piracy floats some players boats but some use it as an excuse for murder.

I doubt it. Players can drop to Solo any time they like, and I would think a fair few do so when hauling very valuable cargo. You never need to encounter another player in ED if you don't want to.

I have to say I for one am not really looking forward to Wings, given that I am, and will be for some time, that lone trader/explorer and sometime BH. The bottom line for me (and I'm not whining) is that I am a casual player (due to time constraints) and don't have, nor am I likely to have, a large list of "friends" i can call on to fly with, so I'll be flying solo in my little ill equiped Adder. Maybe I'm wrong but what i foresee is being pulled out of SC every 5 minutes by a wing (not necessarily CMDRs) and being blown out of the sky. That's going to get old very quickly.

And before someone chimes in to tell me to go play in Solo. I don't want to. I've played in Open since I started and intend to stay there. I fully understand and accept the risks of playing in Open, If i'm carry valuable cargo and loose it, so be it. If I get creamed now any again BH I have no problem with that either, but i just hope that this isn't going to be the start of the game becoming impossible for me to play the way I want to play. I've never been much of a PvPer, mainly due to lack of skill, but I'm not averse to it and understand that it's part of the game, however if it becomes the ONLY way to play due to Wings, then I'm going to struggle with Elite.

I dip in and out as time allows and I enjoy it, and what I do in the game. I just hope that I can contunie to play like that. I'm not one of these people that are bleating about getting into an Anaconda in 5 minutes without having put the effort in, I'd just like to be able to play my game they way I want. Not to much to ask is it?

The thing is, traders don't HAVE to pay for any protection as anyone that is winged up during a trade gets an automatic protection fee (NOT deducted from the trader's proceeds btw). I expect that bounty hunters and lawmen will be looking for traders to group up with - traders get free protection and the fighters get proceeds from the trade (PLUS any potential action from interdictors). My opinion is the reverse of some on this thread, which is that I think wings will ultimately decrease the likelihood of being interdicted.

pretty sure if we had wings last night I would have been taken out. Been playing since beta and no stranger to combat, but no pvp. I am clean and have an A equipped viper ---its the end of the night for me and I am headed to my home station to park and go to bed. I see there are 4 cmdrs in SC, 3 cobras and a viper all clean. I think nothing of it when I'm interdicted by the viper---he is still clean, so I text whats up and he opens fire on me ---ok so we tangle and both manage to get each others shields down and take hull damage when he bugs out ----I'm at 65% and have a cracked canopy so I figure to get to the station where I can get repaired ----as soon as I jump back in SC I'm interdicted by a cobra ---I submit and boost to escape for repairs and am interdicted again, so we tangle I don't lose shields again but am forced to use a couple of shield cells and so does he when he bugs out--- now I know where this is going ---I am perfectly willing to fight to the death, and this was an exciting 45 min, but all they were doing was taking turn to wear me down till one of them could finish me off. I need to get to bed so I jump to a neighboring system for repairs and park for the night.
Am I complaining about what they were doing ---NO --- the only complaint I have is if other CMDRS want to be bad people wear your wanted tag as a badge of honor instead of running to pay off your bounties so you can fly aroung clean ----If you just want to take me out at least send me a message, so I know what to expect ---I'm not going to run or combat log and am willing to fight to the death, but I see what happens in most pvp fights ---as soon as someone is at a disadvantage they bug out
Ok done venting --I know that if they had been able to wing up it would have been 2 or 3 on one and I wouldn't of had a chance.
I've been cordial to any cmdrs Ive come across but pretty much fly as a loner ----so what is in store with wings, are we going to have roving gangs just taking out lone cmdrs they happen to come across--its going to be interesting to see where this goes.

That's all very well, but you have to be winged to get the protection and if I have no one to fly with i wont have the protection, or am i not understanding the mechanics? Also how does the system "know" i am a trader? By dint of my carrying any sort of legitimate cargo?
