What does it take to get developer or producer commentary in the forum?

There are many threads and issues where an official word is absolutely needed, and none can be seen. What do we actually have to do to get FD to notice us? Allowing these massive threads over game issues to fester for days is very bad for the community, which is undoubtedly bad for the game. Most of these threads could be resolved with a simple answer from developers or producers. So, officially, what does it take for us to get an answer to these important questions?

Luck. That and for your question to have an easy answer that will not incite player upset. If the answer is going to upset people, you probably won't get the answer.

It must be a topic that they are willing to comment on. My thread about the Vulture and FDL pricing in the beta forums blew up, but there was no commentary.

The Devs do comment in the forums often but there are so many threads (and so much guff) that it isn't easy to spot them.

Try looki at the posts by Michael and Sandro and others and see how often they comment.

Just because they choose not to comment on one of yours doesn't mean they don't comment on others.

I've seen their comments, and my original statement stands. They provide commentary nobody asked for, while major issues (clearly major, at that, since there's 30 pages of discussion in less than 12 hours) go completely without input. It's unprofessional and unacceptable, but more than that, it's telling of how FD view the community here, and their customer in general. If you don't like their product, or voice dissent, they need to send you to a dark corner so that they can "control" their image. What they fail to realize is that they are alienating paying customers. You won't sell many expansions if everyone with the base game has given up six months ago.

I'd be dumping FD stock, but I don't own any.

They really do need a dedicated player base representitive. heck... pay me 75 bucks a day and I'd do it. surely someone dedicated to giving the best answers possible to the community would be worth the money.

Seriously, every single game forum in the history of this planet has posts like these made by people like you. Just because you don't like doesn't mean 'nobody asked for it'. Just because you would rather see something changes doesn't make it 'unacceptable' (as if you even have something to accept or not...). What is telling about how FD views the community is the massive patch they released a few hours ago, not that they didnt reply to your favorite topic. People have posted all kinds of criticism, and FD has repeatedly allowed it. What you fail to realise is that the world doesn't revolve around you. Why don't you launch ED and see for yourself. ;)

This is amusingly over reactive. OP isn't nearly as hyperbolic as you are, my friend.

I can totally relate. When the big trade nerf went down all I wanted was a confirmation that things were working correctly. Never heard a peep. It's frustrating and has totally destroyed my confidence in FD. Hope you get whatever answer you're needing.

The devs comment all the time, they just don't necessarily respond to every single thread (there are thousands). Use the USS feeds if you want to see them responding.

As an example of how much contact they have with the forums... http://eft.recoil.org/posts

Please keep in mind that dev interaction in the open forum is a matter of choice for them. As great as it is to see their interaction through these forums, im happy that they would rather work on the game than feel the need to provide us with 'polite' responses to everything that is posted. It is likely that many of the posts you feel could benefit from a dev response, will be things.. they are aware of.. already working on.. on the board to be worked on.. contract of developement sensitive information.. an answer that would cause arguments, issues or dissapointment.. upcoming additions.. there are so so many reasons why a dev may not be able to.. want to.. or need to answer a forum post.

I guess people think they can talk devs into submission then :) Not really gonna happen.

But yes, eft.recoil.org mentioned by @QziQza is very good start if you want to follow what devs post on forums (and they do a lot).

Specifics please?

Specifics please?

How about the ship pricing issue, or the massive income disparity for starters?

Nice to see that we can have producers stop by to confirm a station's presence in the E3 demo system, but there are much, much larger issues at hand in the community at large. Just look at how many threads there are that are over 20 pages with no dev comment.

I would much prefer that the developers of this game are doing what they know best ie developing this game to the best of their ability

If they have nothing better to do than hang around on here at our whim to listen and respond to the vast amount of absolute drivel that is spouted here then they probably arent doing their job properly.

If i could be bothered to read the rest of this thread then i assume its about ship pricing again? Do you think they havent thought about it? Really? Seriously? And does it really matter that much in the big scheme of things?

And from my experience of devs getting involved is that a simple response leads to a massive dialogue along the lines of 'thanks for that but what are you doing about my own personal issue'

Feeling better now ... Time for my morning meds!
