Define "Damage the game".......make it unfair in your eyes as some players have all the time in the world? Uneployed, retired, whatever.....where as others dont?................
.
Or do you mean "Damage the game" in that we are seeing 10-20 posts from miffed players in the past 24hrs, with 100s agreeing with them, that the game is booooooring grind to get to the next thing.
.
There is NOTHING you can "DO" in this game, that you can't do, with a Viper or Cobra........for me, that means I am done where I am as I have both.................Have done res and bounty hunting, did rares and trading (yawn) I;m now exploring......so that is kind of "it"............the next thing to keep me here, is the ships............but I will not grind for them. Would rather spend that much time making REAL money in the real world.........you know?

This game, like every game i guess, is about overcoming obstacles and achieving virtual achievements. The "fun" in the game is defeating challenges and overcoming difficulties. If that can be "bought" with IRL money it is cheapened.

I honestly don't see the attraction to "winning" by paying for it and permitting that model cheapens the "win" achieved by being successful in game.

Ummm, Guys, this isn't Star Citizen.... That is the game where where the sell ships (and really expensive virtual gold plating) for enormous amounts of real money.

Why don't you take the money you wanted to invest in ships, give it to your friends so they can play Elite, and have them grind trade routes for you? Then just have them funnel you the galactic rares so you can turn them in.

See, you can purchase ships with real money.

If someone is powerful in the game i want to know that they "earned" that power in the game.

I am 15,000 ly from Sol.........I play Exclusivley in Solo..............I will never see you, you will never see me.............. I dont care who you are or what you have, I care about MY game play experinece........is this some kind of Ego trip to you or something? Your chance in life to lord it over others? You think becasue you have more time than others that you are a REAL "badass" with loads of money?........ers.....:D That's really sweet. I play in Solo dude, I hope you did'nt do it to show off to me......lol.

No. It would have been a controversial decision even at launch, but maybe the game could have gotten away with it. However, adding a cash shop for ships (even worse, credits) afterwards would almost certainly generate large amounts of negativity. This is a buy-to-play game, after all, not a freemium one.
Maybe Elite's in-game economy would not suffer for it, but the game's publicity would. As well as the player base. It's basically trading away present and future players for immediate monetary gain. Which is almost always not a good idea, unless your game is in dire straits enough that you doubt you could keep it going for a year.

Ok mate sounds good, list to me now all the challenges to overcome in trade grinding for days on end to get an expensive ship.

If you think "winning", consists for spending a large part of your free time moving backwards and forwards between 2 stations, for months, then you need to splash some cold water on your face.

So far I haven't seen one single valid reason why they should not put ships in their online store. Pay2win is probably the weakest one. "Win"... what exactly? Come on guys, can do better than that :)

Hi All
.
Some people have lots of time.......and maybe not so much money?........for them, they can grind their way to new ships.........and to mention Payable downloads is like the ultimate sin.......
.
For myself, I am sat in front of a machine for my working day, and I have no desire to "grind" in front of one in the evenings.......have fun? yes...grind? no chance........however, I do have pleanty of real world credits, called "pounds".....
.
Any chance that FD can sell the ships in the store for people who do not have the time to grind out millions of credits? I have some REAL credits you can have instead.......
.
I dont see buying the ships as "Pay to Win".....as others can just grind to the same ship, there is no "bonus weapon" for a cash purchase.....just simple logic......some people have time and can grind, some people dont have the time but have cash......can FD please all?
.
Cheers.

LOL I thought thr whole idea of a game is that you played it , not I don't want to play can I just buy the best ship instead , maybe a good alternative for the credit card warriors would be to pay someone to play the game for them :)

Okay - buy a ship in the store, but then what about the credits to support it. Fly it out the slot with 100cr in the bank and Boom! £20 down the drain. Going crying back to FDev and the devs will shrug their shoulders. "It's what you wanted so..."

So. No. Absolutely not.

I've played it..........Traded, Fought, Mined, Explored ....etc......the only thing to do now, is MOAR.....but with different ships, or just get bored and move on.......I am not playing the most boring part of the game for a month of evenings to get a new ship......just to do the same things.......

Has there ever been a poll on this? I would be very keen to see the result as it seems a fairly even split in thie thread.

I am quite saddened by the number of people who are against the OPs suggestion for no good reason.

You realise FD can't actually spend the credits they charge you for ship, right? The price of ships makes no difference whatsoever to FD. They don't even get anything directly out of making people grind for months for them (since there is no subscription). I've seen this conspiracy theory a couple of times lately but it makes no sense at all.

What I meant to convey with that statement was it might be a gentle shove towards buying ships/game credits out in the real world (what ever that is!)

What I find hard to understand is that we as a community don't have an issue with paying for planetary landings, multi crew ship.............. type of additional content, but actually buying a ship (where we spend most of our game time BTW) is abhorrent.

It's rather simple, strap one starter insurance credit pack onto the ship. And a short but clear notice for people to learn what it means. It's not like forums are not already full of whiners who had to go back to Sidey (famous Asp curse) because they forgot the insurance.

Well, what you don't understand is your own business.

You "start" with a humble sidewinder and make your way through the galaxy (not - buy your way through the Galaxy.)

Still no. Lots of good reasons not to do this. Stop being lame.

I'd like to think the 'conda that blasted my ship during a battle is the result of an high effort to gain it from the other player rather than a payed one with the daddy money.

Reasons are a lot: Immersions, "fair play", "p2w" ( with a type 9 or 'conda a player can reach easilly higher rank in community goals ...), chivarly in pvp etc etc.

Turbo capitalism and neo-liberalism seems really good ideas on paper....but you know, the REALITY is another matter. Ships are the core of Elite. If you put a real money price on it you are going to corrupt the genuinity of the game. At least, a player who can afford a 'conda surely got a really high rank in something (an experienced trader for example..).
Don't you think is stupid to have a CMDR harmless, aimless and pennyless with a FDL ?

So you're now saying buy credits for cash...

Do you see where this leads?
