What I meant to convey with that statement was it might be a gentle shove towards buying ships/game credits out in the real world (what ever that is!)

What I find hard to understand is that we as a community don't have an issue with paying for planetary landings, multi crew ship.............. type of additional content, but actually buying a ship (where we spend most of our game time BTW) is abhorrent.

Paying real cash for a multi crew ship would really be pay to win, you would be paying for an advantage over those who had not paid.

Okay - buy a ship in the store, but then what about the credits to support it. Fly it out the slot with 100cr in the bank and Boom! £20 down the drain. Going crying back to FDev and the devs will shrug their shoulders. "It's what you wanted so..."

So. No. Absolutely not.

If they also added the insurance cost to your wallet when you buy it, that would work.

They could also allow you to pick upgrades for real money, so it comes well fitted and insured.

Bet when that happens never the twain shall meet... The instancing is fully customizable. Otherwise you just have people hiding on planets because the other bloke has not got the expansion.

It is a herd mentalioty...Bhaaaaa...sheep.....they are not even reading it properly.........yet alone passing intelligent comment.

GUYS!......PAY TO WIN = I pay FD a 1000 Pounds to buy "The Death Star".........and can come and kill you easy, and you, CAN NOT buy the Death Star with Game Credits, you HAVE to pay Cash.....THAT is pay to win...........No one is talking about that here........

I am 15,000 ly from Sol.........I play Exclusivley in Solo..............I will never see you, you will never see me.............. I dont care who you are or what you have, I care about MY game play experinece........is this some kind of Ego trip to you or something? Your chance in life to lord it over others? You think becasue you have more time than others that you are a REAL "badass" with loads of money?........ers.....:D That's really sweet. I play in Solo dude, I hope you did'nt do it to show off to me......lol.

Really transparent straw-man here, no intention of responding to it. Seems to me you are the one demonstrating an ego being tied to virtual spaceships and a desire to impress others with how "badass" you are by buying them.

However: If shop bought ships were confined to solo I could not care less who wasted their money on a shallow sense of achievement from owning them. I just don't want others to assume a ship I am flying was shop bought or to be attacked by someone who "earned" their ship via a credit card.

Okay - so you have gone from Buying a new Ship for cash to

  • buying Credits for cash
  • buying Outfitting for cash

The next thing you will want is to buy reputation or ranks for money.

I have one thing to ask you all now:

What's the point in playing the game when you can bypass it all for cash?

I love how every person who says 'yes' spends the time to justify their reasoning, and those that say 'no' don't bother :)

I love how everyone who asks the question that the OP has and all those who take the time to explain their opinions for this idea, couldn't take the time to search the forums for this very conversation, where reasons for No have been given over and over.

Oh look, I can be glib too.

I would buy the galaxy and consign you all to your doom!

Who is glib? I couldn't find that user. Is he/she like Spartacus?

Maybe edit your original post with the definition of Pay2Win. Most of the "No" people aren't even reading the discussions. Unfortunately the Trolls are hungry and will likely stomp and rage until this thread too gets locked and the discussion censored again by the neckbeards.

Ok mate sounds good, list to me now all the challenges to overcome in trade grinding for days on end to get an expensive ship.

If you think "winning", consists for spending a large part of your free time moving backwards and forwards between 2 stations, for months, then you need to splash some cold water on your face.

If it is so easy why would you want to spend money to avoid it? BTW I used quotation marks around the words "winning" and "win" exactly because I do not see it as winning really, though it seems those who want to pay IRL money to get a bigger ship see it that way.

I'd like to think the 'conda that blasted my ship during a battle is the result of an high effort to gain it from the other player rather than a payed one with the daddy money.

Reasons are a lot: Immersions, "fair play", "p2w" ( with a type 9 or 'conda a player can reach easilly higher rank in community goals ...), chivarly in pvp etc etc.

Turbo capitalism and neo-liberalism seems really good ideas on paper....but you know, the REALITY is another matter. Ships are the core of Elite. If you put a real money price on it you are going to corrupt the genuity of the game. At least, a player who can afford a 'conda surely got a really high rank in something (an experienced trader for example..).
Don't you think is stupid to have a CMDR harmless, aimless and pennyless with a FDL ?

Daddy money? Lol?

You do realise that not eveyone who plays this game is unemployed right?

if they open up ship sales for cash, they will also then need to sell credits for cash, that diversity may well suffer as a result,

Im sorry but that makes no sense. If they sold ships for cash, why would they "NEED" to sell cr for cash? Ships is what you purchase in game from earning cr. Selling ships just gives you more options for different play styles in game to earn cr. If you sell cr for cash that defeats the purpose for any activity in game. Ships in Elite is not the end game. So why does it matter?

You all must get very depressed when you see someone with a better car than yours on the road, they are of course winning at life and you aren't
Pay to win isn't fun in real life, either, for those who can't pay.
It just means that those with the dough can trample on those who don't have any. If it isn't particularly conducive to fun in real life - why would you think it's fun mechanic in a game?

For a game to be fun for everyone everyone must be given an equal chance.

You have no answer to my question, which means I win.........thanks for playing :)

Ok, glad you found a game you can "win" at without paying to do so :)

Funny thing is I am smiling too so I guess this is win/win!

Please do enjoy your victory, I get a feeling you might need it.

So what you are saying is that the only reason to play this game is to grind for bigger ships? that's just sad!

I'm saying that the progression, the grind, the working for your next ship, is part of the game.

If you think that's sad why are you even playing this game? What sad is wanting to bypass the journey and get to big and (supposedly) beautiful without the effort.

I've worked hard (two hours a week) for my Cobra and I'm happy with that. I hacked X3 and put oodles of cash in my account, learned how to spawn ships at will... and within a week stopped playing cause it was boring.

Sad sad sad. No buying of ships.
